Trevor The Toad --

On 7-27, “kpr” asked,
“Who is Neville's toad Trevor? It seems clear that the toad is looking for something in the castle. Could Trevor be Regulus Black?

“…Trevor could be an anamagis (similar to Ron's rat). A couple times in every book there is are comments that Trevor is lost. It could just be comic relief, but I think Trevor is looking for something (possibly a horcrux that is hidden in the school).”

Does anyone know of a connection between the Longbottoms and the Blacks?
Neville said that his uncle BOUGHT Trevor because he was "so pleased" that Neville had been accepted to Hogwarts.

The obvious connection between the Longbottoms and the Blacks is that B. Lastrange (sp?) tortured Neville's parents and she is a Black.

However, Regulus had turned away from the dark arts and Voldemort so any old connection would have been broken and new ones may have been made.

Anyway - Regulus was just one guess and probably not a good one. It is unlikely that Regulus would have survived drinking the poison in the cave when he stole the horcrux locket (unless someone else was there to drink the poison).

the longbottoms were friends with the potters when they stood up to voldemort, probably meat they were also friends of sirus

Was Trevor in the movies?
If the character was completely ignored, that would be a clue.

i know he was seen in the first movie he is siting on the arm of the chair (nevill is petting him)when the trio is going to go down stiris to the 3rd floor corador rember when nevill stands up to them & hurmine does the pertifacis totales spell on him whach the movie

Don't confuse the movies and the books. The people making the movies don't know anything more about book 7 than we do.

FWIW, Neville/Trevor were in the scene before the 1st year students went into the great hall to be sorted.

Ok, so Trevor was seen in the movies.
That could mean that he might still be important.

Peeves, unfortunately, has been completely ignored.
That tells me that he definately does not become
important later. I would think.

True, the people making the movies probably know
less than we do. Still, Rowling talks to them and
wouldn't let them drop an important character.
