The books don't say anything about his grandparents. But in one of her latest interviews J.K says that Lilly's parents and James' parents have all died of natural causes. She wanted to make sure that Harry's character was as lonely as possible, or he would have of course lived with them instead of with his aunt and uncle.

But what if that is just what she wants to think. Why do you think McGonagall and Dumbledore are so protective of Harry other than the fact that he is a student... Harry should have done been expelled for everythink he has done, but why hasn't he been? I think that McGonagall and Dumbledore could be Lily's parents or Dumbledore could father of one while McGonagall is mother to the other...

It doesn't really make sense for Harry's grandparents, especially on James' side, to have died of natural causes. James and Lily had Harry rather young, they were only 21 when they died. That means that their parents couldn't have been over 60, and even for Muggles that really isn't that old. But wizards and wizards, especially have a longer average lifespan, I think we have to rule out old age as a cause of death. Obviously disease is also possible, but again, it doesn't seem very likely for James' parents. If all four of Harry's grandparents were really struck down by illness prematurely, than he's got some kind of cursed heritage. :/

I think it's very bizarre the way they were all dead like this, and I've wanted more, but JKR hasn't provided us with much at all on them. James's parents couldn't have been dead too terribly long when Harry was born. Well for that matter, neither could Lily's have been.

I have to say, I think that at least for James' parents, it would have may a lot more sense to me if they had been killed in a DE attack. Of course, we know next to nothing about how active the DE were and if the Potter family was involved with the Order or not. It just seems fishy to me to have them die "of natural causes".

i think it's a very good point that it's a bit suspicious that they all died suddenly. maybe famine struck or something. shrug. i guess we'll never know. tear. hermione lewis
