1) The whole story was roughly planned out before the first book was published.
The best stories are written backwards. You know where you're going before you start.
After all that's gone into it, to change the ending of a masterpiece like this on a whim is unthinkable.

2) JKR is the one and only millionaire author, ever.
She got there for a reason. She knows what she's doing.
She has no reason to listen to some fool director.

Hmm .. you mean the one that was mentioned in the second book? That's a good theory.

And yeah, a director couldn't make JK change the entire story line.

Also, about the Peter theory, could someone explain why its such a bad idea? I mean, when he has Dumbledore working with him, he would be smart enough to impersonate him. Then again, Voldemort would be able to cover up the hand, so it might just be a stupid Death Eater. So I don't get why it doesn't make sense.

Who will die? No, I don’t think it will be Harry. The phrase, “Neither can live while the other survives” has always implied to me that one of them will live. Rowling might want to keep us guessing, but it’s not going to happen. Everybody else is fair game.

I still haven’t figured out why anyone would suspect Peter. I can think of plenty reasons not to, but where did this idea come from?

I mentioned that Peter’s silver hand could be important. Warewolves tend to have a problem with silver. On the other "hand," Wormtail owes Harry a big favor from Book Three.

That’s when the idea entered this thread of “Peter pretending to be Dumbledore in the 6th book and the black hand was to cover his magical silver one…”

Well, for one thing, the polyjuice potion would cover something like that. It works so well that Barty Jr. needed Moody’s fake leg and eye.

A more important problem is that the impersonator would have needed to keep it up all day. Not just for those few minutes at the top of the tower, but through all of their conversations about horcruxes, their adventure in the cave, flying back through the Hogwarts security system – it was a very busy day.
No one on either side would trust Peter with so much information.
And even if someone did, that would be an amazing performance from a loser like Peter.

The big problem is, WHY? What would he or anyone hope to gain?

According to this theory, did Peter die? Was he a volunteer or did Dumbledore agree to the sacrifice?

It just doesn’t work, from any angle.

ok...here's my theory...you might not agree with it/me but oh well. i think that ron or hermione might die trying to protect harry from one of voldemort's/a death eater's attack...and this will only motivate harry even more than he already is to kill voldemort. just a theory...

Hmm .. okie dokie, thanks! lol

And yeah, I think that Ron might die to save him. Or it might be Lupin. I don't think it will be both Ron and Hermione though. Or maybe Ron will die to save Hermione who wanted to die to save Harry .. but either way, both of them won't die.

K so I've been wizzing about the site trying to find your discussions on this point and I just can't find it. Pardon moi if you've been through all this but doesn't Godric's sword kinda HAVE to be a horcrux?? i mean why else did Voldy turn up that night to ask for a teaching job if not to be in the same room as the sword?? The reason Dumby gave -wanting to live and learn the secrets of Hogwarts- is lame. Wouldn't there be ultimate pleasure for Voldy to have his horcrux protected by Dumby??

Harry will kill Voldy I reckon. Jo can't mess with the natural order of things THAT much!

I think there might be a good chance Hermione (what an awful name!) and Ron might die but that would be an unnecessary terror.

ps. love the idea of Neville getting revenge. Gotta be against Bagotrix

I still think he was looking for Riddle's trophy (the one Ron barfed on).
Like the diary, he made the trophy a horcrux when he was young and arrogant, then thought better of it years later. He can't trust anyone, not even his "most faithful" death eater, to steal it for him.
Griffindor's sword has already crossed Dumbledore's mind, and I'm sure he examined it and determined that it was not a horcrux.

I don't think anyone else will die for Harry. He has realised that he needs to do the thing himself and can't let anyone stand between him and Voldemort. Although...Ron and Hermione are going with him.....

I like the trophy spotting, very clever. Colour me stupid but why would Voldy make a horcrux of the trophy?? Wouldn't that be too similar to the diary- kinda making the same point: Voldy saying 'I was 'ere' again?! Isn't the point that he was trying to get to the founders/stuff that's important to him, ratehr than just stuff that's connected to him?? i reckon Voldy not only doesn't care about the trophy but would kinda laugh at it. I mean it wasn't because of anything he actually achieved or won, it is a lie/a joke/ a 'I fooled 'em all' kinda thing. He wants horcruxes that prove how smart he is not how stupid everyone else is -psychoanalaysis 101
