For all those others out there who are just as befuddled as I am, this is my problem: Who is R.A.B.? I'm assuming Regulus Black (seeing as he was under Voldie and could therefore have suspected about the whole Horc- Horc-.... soul splitting thing.) Plus when I looked up his name, Regulus apparently comes from the Alpha Leo constellation (hence the 'A' middle name). This, so far, is probably the best bet. Any other takers?

Wow that's clever about the 'Alpha' thingo. Jo did say that the Black family were named after constellations (except the three sisters - Narcissa, Bellatrix). So I think your theory about Alpha is pretty strong As we've talked about on other boards, it could well be another knew character (she's gotta stop doing this. Very Agetha Christie - the bad books - of her). someone else on the site, mentioned the Bones. I don't know 'cause they're pretty antiVoldemort (what's left of them) so I doubt they'd know enough to know anything about Horcrux's. Then again it's pretty surprising that an 'also ran' like reggie Black found out about them...???

Well, I figure anyone who looks at old Tom is gonna know he's not exactly all that human. So, naturally, many would be susupicious. Those who have the resources (ahem, Dark family lines, such as the Blacks) would be able to investigate if they were so inspired to do so. Wouldn't it be ironic if the Hor-wazzit ended up in Sirius's old house with all the things Harry just inherited?

We've only just finished a while ago. So I haven't had much time to think on the identity. But I do like the possibilities of a Black family member. They would have wanted to have some way of keeping themselves powerful. (Although I would not want to steal part of Voldie's soul and toy with him about it.) As for the possibility of the Bones family.....Well, Slughorn is not evil or dark....just a bit self-centered. Some powerful good wizards would know what a Horcrux was. Dumbledore knew what it was, he just needed to be certain of Tom's conversation with Slughorn. I was glad that the book did not end with the usual ride on the Hogwarts Express and Harry going home to the Dursleys (we know he is, but I like the ending better). Phlegm

In the note harry found, the author said "I know I will be dead long before you read this", suggesting that either the author knew he would be killed or that he committed suicide. In book 5 Sirius mentioned that he was surprised that his brother was special enough to be killed by Volemort himself.

Alpha's a great suggestion- Blacks are named after constellations. But for all we know it could be 'Alphard' after his uncle or even 'Alphie' 'cause Mrs Black was a big Michael Cane fan!! Great point about Reggies death. it's obvious we don't know anything about it. He could well have killed himself and taken the Horcrux to his grave |
