I thought, for fun (as morbid as that sounds ), we could do a death pool for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I know it's 6 or more months away, but I figured, what the hay, we need to pass the time :P . Besides, if I didn't post it now, I'd forget

Ok, for those of you who don't know, generally a death pool works like this. People say famous/important people they think are going to die in the coming year. Then, at the end of the year, whoever gets the most right wins.

I thought we could do a similar thing for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Everyone can put a list of the people they think will die in the seventh book. This is the best way I can think to score it. If anyone has a better idea, let me know.
+1 point for every character you correctly guess as dying
-1 point for every character you say will die but doesn't
-1 point for every character that dies that you don't guess

In my opinion, extras dying should not count against anyone's score.

As an added challenge, you could put them in the order you think they will die. I'm not sure how to go about scoring this element, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Maybe it would be something like a bonus of a few points if your order is correct.

I think you need to define "extras" before you work out a point system.
How about compiling a list of candidates first, then every correct guess gets a point?
Then again, maybe that list would be too long.

I suppose so. Help me compile it. Or anyone else for that matter. We'll start making a list.

From the thread,
“Jk Has Said: two Of The Most Important Characters Will Be Dead, who?”
the candidates are:

Voldomort
Snape
Harry
Hermione
Ron
Lupin
Greyback
Wormtail
Arthur
Molly
Percy
One of the Dursleys
One of the Weasleys

From the poll thread,
"Are One Of The 3 Main Characters Killed In 7?"
the candidates are:

Hagrid
Draco
Lucious
Bellatrix

====================

Definately Voldemort, Greyback and Bellatrix.

And probably Snape.
Not because I want Snape to die, but because I don't see much of a future for him.
I hope he at least goes out as a hero.

Peter, because of his debt, will half-turn good and die for it.

Ok, well I'm going to try getting the list Psyduck mentioned up here soon.

I also had another idea. Bonus point if you can describe the method of death for the character and/or who will do it.

Maybe we could even expand this to the "ends" for every character. What I mean is, say you think a character won't die but will end up in prison or get the dementor's kiss (which I saw someone in another thread say they think will happen to Voldemort).
Think that's a good idea?

Something interesting I found:

"Does the identity of the bust signed by JK Rowling give us a clue to one of the deaths in book 7? As we reported earlier, she finished the seventh book while staying at the five-star Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh. Before checking out, she marked the occasion with a tantalising inscription scribbled on the back of a Roman-style bust.

Quote:
According to one report, the bust depicts Hadrian, the Roman emperor who built the eponymous wall to divide Roman Britain from the “barbarians” in the north.

The hotel says the identity of the bust incorrect, but if it is correct here are a few very interesting facts. The wall is known as Hardrain's wall. After falling into ill repair, it was later restored by Emperor Septimius Severus and passes near the Yorkshire village of Snape.

This is leading many to believe that Potion Master Severus Snape is one of the deaths in book 7. We will have to wait until July 21 to discover if this more than a rumor."

My vote? I think Ron is going to die.

Sad, but I think so.

Here is the full article:

Rowling celebrates completing Potter series by signing Hermes' bust in Scottish hotel!

London, Feb 3 (ANI): British author JK Rowling celebrated the completion of the seventh and final Harry Potter book not by breaking open a bottle of champagne but by signing a marble bust in the hotel room in which she was staying.

The author completed the book in a luxury room at one of Scotland's most famous hotels - the Balmoral.

And, to mark the achievement, she signed one of the busts in the room with a black marker pen.

"JK Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room (652) on 11th Jan 2007," the Scotsman quoted her, as writing on the bust.

A spokeswoman for the 188-room Balmoral, where rooms cost anywhere between 290 pounds to 1,575 pounds a night, confirmed that Rowling had scribbled on the bust.

"We can confirm that the author signed a bust, following a recent visit to the hotel. It was hotel property. We have many different antique artefacts within the hotel," the spokeswoman said.

Meanwhile, a source revealed that staff at the hotel had been astounded that Rowing had chosen the bust to leave behind an autograph.

"We couldn't believe it when we saw it. We get celebrities in the Balmoral all the time and they often sign autographs for fans - but no one has left one behind on an ornament before," the source said.

The bust, believed to be of Greek God Hermes, is now in the care of the hotel's general manager Debbie Taylor.

The seventh and final Harry Potter book will be released on July 21 this year. (ANI)[/b]

This article said it was Hermes. My guess is, she just signed the bust that happened to be in her room to mark the occassion, and had nothing to do with the particular bust she was signing. I'm sure it was a fan who came up with the rest to get people stirred up.

I do, however, think Snape has a good chance of dying.

Surely you don't think Ron will be the only one to die? Who else?

Put it all on one list, so we can look at it later

Oh, right, I heard that it was Hermes, too, but I didn't try to find out for sure, I just posted what I saw.
Anyway...Hermes = Percy's owl?
