I used to hope the best for these characters. I thought Harry's uncle and aunt couldn't possibly be so horrible. They must've been doing it for some reason. Malfoy was just spoiled and would shape up with age. Fudge wasn't really such an idiot. I've given up on all that. There is NO MISDIRECTION. JK doesn't do that. If Snape turns out to be good, it will be the first misdirection JK has ever done in this series. She may have been saving up for Snape, but what are the odds?

Voldemort feels ashamed of his parents (ESPECIALLY OF HIS FATHER) and that's why he has changed his muggle name. The case with Snape is quite different...he has signed as Half-blood Prince - he is not ashamed of his muggle origin.
Snape called himself the half-blood prince because of his witch mother, eileen prince. tobias snape was his father and a muggle. although he still carries his father's name, i think he was acting like voldemort did in school. he thought himself up a cool nickname from his magic background, but where voldemort used his among his circle of friends, did snape even have any friends in school?

I think he might of had a couple of friends.. but from what i read he never called himself the half-blood prince only in his old potions book.

I think that Jk might lead us on with Snape. i dont think hes guilty. He just never seemed like it before. He might hate Harry but thats because of James right. The only time that Snape ever lived up to his Death
Eater name was in the 6th book. I think that Dumbly told him to do it because he was going to die anyway. So maybe Dumbly wanted to keep Snapes status as a Death eater so that when the time comes he can Help Harry and noone will suspect it. Just my theory!

I agree! there's so much more going on with snape than meets the eye, and i love reading everyone's theory on this website. i think when dumbledore said "severus please" before snape killed him, he wasn't saying please don't kill me, he was saying please kill me. after all if snape hadn't done it (because malfoy weenied out) he would have died because he had taken the unbreakable vow to draco's mom. dumbledore definitely didn't fear death, so wouldn't have begged for his life. and if snape was a full blown death eater, he would have killed harry when harry was chasing him across the hogwarts grounds.

Wow i did not even think about that.. Thats right he would killed Harry then.. all he did was deflect his spells.. good point..

No misdirection in the books? Having you been reading the same books as the rest of us? These are mysteries my friend. There has been misdirection all over the place.

I'm going to try to make a list of major misdirections in each of the books, focussing mainly on character portrayals or plots. Tell me what you think.

Book I:- Quirrel's Cowardice / Snape's Treachery

Book II:- Hagrid - heir of Slytherin / Harry - heir of Slytherin / Tom Riddle - Rewarded for feats at Hogwarts

BookIII:- Sirius' guilt / Peter's sacrifice

Book IV:- Mad-Eye / The Crouch Family

Book V:- Harry's visions (his trust in them) / Sirius' death??

Book VI:- Dumbledore's death?? / Murderous Snape??

There's probably more.
