I agree, that the animagi will play another part in the books. The only problem is finding out who will be the new one.

Maybe Rufus Scrimgeor would become a snowy owl and act like Hedwig to see if he can find what Dumbledore did with Harry before he died.
Of course, Harry knows Hedwig really well and Rufus would most likely become a lion wouldn't he? Because he was desribed to have lion like features.

Could Hermione learn to become an animagi in the next book and become a spy for Harry? No, Hermione isn't the type.

And it seems to be a big problem with so many possibilities.

I don't know about more anamagi. I think she's used them to their full extent. If there is another one I think it would play a small part, not one that's very central to the plot.

What if?

In the Animorphs series, when one changes into an animal, one acquires the instincts and abilities that are normal for that species.

What if, when changing into an owl, one can magically find people the way owls can?

This would be a way for the good guys to find the bad guys. Or for bad guys to find good guys.
