No. He has been planning it all along. His whole life has been about the Traveler. He would have needed to fake his death anyway so that he could go time traveling. The thing with Snape just brought it along a little sooner than it might have been.

Dumbledore faked his death with the help of Snape... He never made a public return... He remained active through the war, but quietly and behind the scenes... After the war, Dumbledore reviewed his life and finished writing his memoirs... He considered the many crucial moments of his long life... He then set out on his "final journey," to go back and fix things, in reverse order.

As the Time Traveler, Dumbledore worked his way back through time, tinkering with the crucial events of his own life. He also could have continued to collect information and to contribute to the solution of the Voldemort problem from the remote past.

In my fan fiction, the elderly Traveler first appeared to the young Dumbledore when he was about 25. He died in the distant past, under the care of his younger self. But that part doesn't matter much.

========================

I was just looking for someone to explain Ottery's point, 'cause it's not getting through.
And she didn't get my comparison to the Lord of the Rings because she hasn't read it.
So, now we're all confused together. Isn't this fun?

...Hey I think it's a good theory, but this is your work Psyduck, not J.K. Rowling's. She's not going to come up with this unless she reads and copies it... [/b]
But that was kind of the point. I think she did come up with it first. Not the way I've spelled it out in the fan fiction, but something along the lines of the basic theory. It's where all the clues are pointing. I didn't make it up. I just chipped away the stuff that didn't fit.

Unless...
I vaguely remember a scene from a James Bond movie when I was a little kid... maybe Goldfinger... anyway, the character was doing a jigsaw puzzle with a nail file, forcing the pieces to fit where she wanted them. But no, I'm not doing that.

...And I agree with Ottery that it would end up being DD's story instead of Harry's.[/b]
Ok, now we're getting somewhere. So. why did it work for Frodo and not for Harry?

I found your theories very interesting. They are always so clever and well-founded.
