Good enough. Don't need the wife's name.
Thanks!
I think three turns should do it...

So, do you think that Dumbledore used a time-turner in the Order of the Pheonix when he was in his office after they caught the D.A.?

That would explain how he disapeared out of nowhere.

lol! Maybe not, just thinking.

(And since when did I ever listen to what someone ever said. lol)

It explains much more than that.
Dumbledore was confident that all would work out, but he had no idea how or why.
He didn't know what was going on, and then he knew.
He's quick, but he's not that quick.
And neither is Shacklebolt.
The Time-Traveler was there, in the shadows, giving instructions as the needs emerged, and helping out.

Let me think a minute on how to explain that.

Ok, I'm back.

I started writing something before, but I wasn't sure where I was going with it.
This little chunk fits here better than it fit where I had it.

The Ickies: Some things are not so strong that I call them "superstitions," but they still don't feel right. Not a solid reason to reject a theory, but just...icky. Reservations.
(7) I don't want Dumbledore to be so callous. I don't want to see him forced to choose to allow someone to be murdered. It's the can-not vs. should-not thing.
With Lily and James, it was out of his hands. But what about Cedric and Sirius? Was that a necessary evil?
( We don't want to do things right in front of Voldemort that would give him any clues.

I'll get back to you with that thing about Shacklebolt.
That'll take a little longer, and my kid wants the computer.
I feel like the Fates -- the three sisters sharing one eye.

In trying to answer this seemingly simple question, I realized that it wasn't so simple.
I wrote a demo instead.

See "Shacklebolt," in the fan fiction section.

Dumbledore fakes his death and goes into hiding. Guided by his memoirs he travels back in time and helps his past self out of sticky situations etc. After he puts all this in order, he tells two trusted friends about his memoirs. And then he dies.

Is that right, Psyduck? For a very simplified version?

finished writing his memoirs and left
them...along with that special little package. [/b]
What's the special little package?

And yes, it would explain how Dumbledore knew how to trust Snape. Out of your whole theory that part might be the part that convinces me...

It's plausible.

"Dumbledore fakes his death and goes into hiding. Guided by his memoirs he travels back in time and helps his past self out of sticky situations etc."

That works. Except the part where he hangs around long enough to finish Voldemort. THEN he starts his journey back.

The santitzed copy of the memoirs were an after thought, and became even less important in the revised-for-Aberforth version. If you must summarize, skip that.

He lives out his final days under the care of a very young Dumbledore.
And THEN he dies, in the distant past.

What's the special little package?
I'm not telling. You gotta read it.
And it's not essential.

I find your theory interesting but extremely heavy reading. I haven't much time right now to read the 2nd half but i'll get round to it some time. All i can do is congratulate you. I doubt i'd be able to come up with something like that, unless it's just because i'm too young. By the way, how old is your son? Does he like Harry Potter too? (You don't have to answer these questions if you don't want to.)

My daughter is 12 and my son is 15.
Why?

He would recommend "The Hitchhiker's Guide," if that's where you're going.

(He would also advocate World of War Craft, sleeping all day,
junk food, evading chores and being a pain in the butt.)
