As I was looking on JK's official site I found out that the mirror will help Harry in some way. Whether in a big or small way she did not say but it will help him.

I am talking about the mirror that Sirius gave Harry before he died.

JK said "...The mirror might not have helped as much as you think, but on the other hand, will help more than you think. You'll have to read the other books to understand that!"

What do you think the mirror will do to help Harry?

Since it was designed for the purpose of communiation, maybe it will enable Harry to communicate with someone else. Who this would be, I have no idea.

Could there be a connection between it and the Mirror of Erised?

I wouldn't think so the mirror allows you to take to peole and the The Mirror shows you what you want most in the world.

Here's another interesting bit I found from the site parry hotter mentioned that is relevant to this topic.

Quote:
MA: R.A.B.

JKR: Ohhh, good.

[All laugh.]

JKR: No, I'm glad! Yes?

MA: Can we figure out who he is, from what we know so far?

[Note: JKR has adopted slightly evil look here]

JKR: Do you have a theory?

MA: We've come up with Regulus Black.

JKR: Have you now?

MA: Uh-oh.

[Laughter.]

JKR: Well, I think that would be, um, a fine guess.

MA: And perhaps, being Sirius’s brother, he had another mirror –

JKR: [drums fingers on soda can]

MA: Does he have the other mirror, or Sirius’s mirror —

JKR: I have no comment at all on that mirror. That mirror is not on the table. [Laughter from all; Jo's is maniacal.][/b]

Maybe the mirror is still in Sirius' house. We don't know that he took it to the ministry the night he died. I can't imagine Harry, in his quest to find the other horcruxes not going by Grimmauld Place for a bit... even if it were merely for the protection it might afford him, being unplottable etc. So, most likely he would find the other mirror. Possibly he could leave it in Ron, Hermione, Fred and George or even Kreacher and Dobby's possessions.

Yes, the mirror may be in Sirius' house still.
Yes, he may have had it on the night he went through the viel. It may also be on him still, but as you can't come back through the viel, maybe can't communicate either with anyone who has gone through there.

Also, the bit where you say "...Possibly he could leave it in Ron, Hermione, Fred and George or even Kreacher and Dobby's possessions...", i wouldn't think that he would leave it with Kreacher. Reason being, if Kreacher could obey two masters when Sirius was still alive, who is to say he will go back to one now that Harry is his master? Just because Sirius is dead, does not mean he will abandon Lord Voldemort.

That's true. Though if Kreacher had Dobby to sort of watch over him it might be safe enough. Dobby won't let it get used for the wrong things. Then again, why not have Dobby use it in his own right? Dobby seems to know a lot about the castle and there might be more knowledge that he can impart to Harry in the next book from there. Who knows?

Good suggesions, but there are flaws in them.

"...Though if Kreacher had Dobby to sort of watch over him it might be safe enough.."
No, that would fail. As you can see from what Kreacher does, and how he talks to himself...he is just as smart as Dobby, but in the opposite way. Keacher uses his abilities to do work his mistress would find useful. He would pull the wool over Dobby's eyes somehow, and make sure it came into Voldemort's hands.

"...Then again, why not have Dobby use it in his own right?..."
Dobby is smart, but he doesn't think about things often. He would somehow let it slip into the wrong hands.

The rest of the woute i agree with.
