I also think that it was a strange Avada Kedavra curse that Snape threw out. There could easily have been a hidden spell there that threw DD off his feet. But he did fall from an awfully high place without a wand. Who knows, maybe Fawkes caught him. For all we know, it could have happened that way - there was a pretty long gap between DD falling and his body being found.
