Socks are mentioned an awful lot in Harry Potter. For an interesting argument, check out http://www.hp-lexicon.org/...

For an interesting argument, check out
http://www.hp-lexicon.org/essays/socks.html

The part I like is:
"Dobby knows things they [Ron & Harry] have yet to learn.
What's the betting these socks will reappear, and turn out
to have some powerful magic knitted into them?
Were these the ones Dumbledore saw in the Mirror?"

After reading this little essay, I believe it.

lol! I think that you're over-analyzing again!

Socks are just a very funny subject, so of course JK would bring it up! Okay, Dobby has a reason to be obssessed with socks, and Dumbledore wanting socks is just a joke!

Sox rock my Sox!

Well .. when JK adds something to her stories, there's usually a reason, right?

Did you read it?
http://www.hp-lexicon.org/essays/socks.html

No, Dumbledore wasn't joking.
It may have been just a symbol, but it was not a joke.
I'm old enough to get it. I can relate.
To have wants and needs that are so simple, and so misunderstood.

I agree with Ginny Weasley Rox. I think you are over analyzing. Like that obsession someone had on here over the colour of peoples eyes in the book. It doesn't mean anything. It's just where Jo's describing someone and feels she should say something more about this caracter, maybe the eyes are the first thing people notice about the caracter. Don't get obsessed with socks. Please!!!!

I heard about that, the obsessions with eyes I mean. Yeah, thanks for helping prove my point.
