Maybe the relationship between socks and knitting also extends to headgear... since we find Hermione knitting hats for the House Elves in book 5. Maybe there's a contrast between the two types of things that can be knitted, having said that no one actually knits socks in the series I don't think... of course where would Mrs. Weasley's jumpers for all but her daughter-in-law-to-be fit in?

Just noticed in book 6 when harry's about to leave with Dumbledore for the cave he gives Ron a pair of socks and Ron's like, "What would I want with a pair of socks?" Harry's response: "You need what's in them" 'cause the remainder of his Felix Felicis was in there. Maybe I'm just showing my obsession with running bits... but hey!

On the thing that was in the socks of Harry's the Felix Felicis, do we reckon Ron and Hermione took it? I mean if they did then reading that night at face value it looks like Felix didn't do his job!

No when Harry took Felix for the first time to get the memory from Sluggy Lavender dumped Ron. That was lucky because Ron had been hoping she would dump him for ages and it was lucky for Harry too cause it was annoying and he hated Ron and Hermione arguing all the time. On the ssame night Ginny and Dean split up. The point Demelza was referring to about Felix not doing it's job, well it did because Hermione, Ron and the others who took it were lucky and kept safe. It couldn't stop DD dying though because he was meant to die, if he died at all.
