lol! I think it's great that people don't agree on everything! That would just be way too boring.

Besides, I love debating things, don't you?

Oh, in the Bored Room thread, hp4ever and I started this thing called virtual entertainment and hermione said that we should make a website out of it. You should go check it out...

I agree- socks are just better items of clothes that can be removed- Harry couldn't have taken off his underware for Lucius M. for Dobby for instance.

Wow, that would have been so disturbing...............lol, I can just imagine Lucius holding it up and screaming, "I've got Harry Potter's undies!!!!!!!" And then this group of girls comes flying around the corner screaming their heads off, and then there's a huge moshpit, LOL!

Socks are mentioned an awful lot in Harry Potter.
For an interesting argument, check out
http://www.hp-lexicon.org/essays/socks.html

The part I like is:
"Dobby knows things they [Ron & Harry] have yet to learn.
What's the betting these socks will reappear, and turn out
to have some powerful magic knitted into them?
Were these the ones Dumbledore saw in the Mirror?"

After reading this little essay, I believe it.
[/b]
Who knows, there might be a connection between socks and say knitting... I mean in book 1 we find Hagrid knitting on the underground en route to the Leaky Cauldron and what about Dumbledore's saying he was reading the knitting patterns in the loo at Slughorn's. Might just be a co-incidence, or if nothing else another laugh for us!

I remember back when I first saw this on the lexicon and I loved it.

The socks are way too common and boring an object to be brought up as much as there are in Harry Potter without some significance. I have no idea if they will play a part in the plot, but I have no doubt that they are symbolic. In what way they are symbolic I haven't quite figured out yet, but I'm working on it. It may very well be related to humility and what psyduck said about simple, humble needs.
