Thankyou for all your hard work Psyduck. Can I ask, are you quoting from a hard or paperback?? Is it the Australian edition?? I've been intrigued by the reference:'He can not kill you if you are already dead" line by Dumbledore to Malfoy (519 by your book). I cannot find iT. !!! Annoying the heck out of me! I've read this in a number of postings and thought it might explain something about Regulus but I cannot find it in my hardback Aus edition... ??? Can you give me a few more clues please? If it's in other editions but not the Australian... don't know what that menas!??? Dumbledore's connection to pheonix is potent, I agree. When I was in my 'Dumbledore can't be dead!!', denial stage I thought he might actually BE a pheonix/ an animagus. (Strange. Before the 6th I was one of the posties saying that Dumbledore HAD to die for Harry to do what he has to do, be what he has to be. Emotions are a funny thing.) I was turned from this line of thinking by the fact that Harry was released from the binding spell, the headmasters office was open to McGonagall and Fawkes left forever. Still very upsetting. I totally agree that Dumbledore's patronus would have been a pheonix. Wonder what he saw in the mirror of Erised??

In the mirror or Erised, I think Dumbledore said he saw himself receiving a nice pair of warm, woolen socks for Christmas. I'll look again at that "if you are already dead" line. Obviously, it's during their conversation on the tower. If you've looked for it and not found it, maybe it's not there. I'm in New Jersey, USA.

Harry understood that Dumby was lying when he said that about the socks though. I'd really appreciate it if you could look that reference up. Not because I'm trying to be a smart butt in any way but because it's a really interesting line. I've looked it up The conversation is on page 552-3 Aus hardback but no sign of those particular words?? Weird huh?? I knew the US version was longer (and yes.. I have made many jokes about it being in larger print) but this might finally explain why- you get more HP than we do! ![]()

They just changed my 'smart azz' to 'smart butt'!!! How rude! My butt's smartin' all across the Pacific Ocean. I noticed you gave 'em heck and won us hell Psyduck. Thankyou. Could this be your next crusade please? I've got the sloggan: 'No ifs. No butts!' or: 'What do we want? Azz! When do we want it? Now!' While we're at it they won't let d.a.m.n through either. Weird huh? I have brought this to the powers that be's attention but I guess they weren't paying.. well, attention. You seem to have their ear. Anyway (it's 2am in Oz you have to forgive mee my silly rambles), Nigh Nights

Harry SUSPECTED he was lying. I believed him. He said that the happiest man in the world would see himself as he is. I would think that Dumbledore would be nearly as pleased with himself. At that moment, a nice new pair of socks might have been all that he lacked. My argument was that "Give her hell from us, Peeves!" was a direct quote. I can't think of how to stretch it to other words, though they may be equally inoffensive. I'll get to that quote eventually. Right now, I'm feeding the guinea pig. She's only middle aged, but she's scary skinny, and losing fur. I'm feeding her mush with a syringe. And then I need to throw in that pot roast that's been sitting too long... And then I need to take the kids to a rehearsal... I'll get to that quote eventually.

I have the US version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The front cover has a picture of Dumbledore and Harry looking into the pensive. The back cover shows Ron, Hermione, Ginny and some indistinct people in the fog looking up at the dark mark above the castle. In my version, Chapter 27, "The Lightning-Struck Tower," runs from pages 579 thru 610. The quote below begins on page 591 So, Buffer, what does your version say? You can just cut & paste this post to your word processor, edit it, and then cut & paste it back to a new post. Does anyone have the England version? I can't read any other languages, or I'd ask for those. Can anyone tell me how they are different? ======================== "There is little time, one way or another, said Dumbledore. "So let us discuss your options, Draco." "MY options!" said Malfoy loudly. "I'm standing here with a wand -- I'm about to kill you --" "My dear boy, let us have no more pretense about that. If you were going to kill me, you would have done it when you first disarmed me, you would not have stopped for this pleasant chat about ways and means." "I haven't got any options!" said Malfoy, and he was suddenly white as Dumbledore. "I've got to do it! He'll kill me! He'll kill my whole family!" "I appreciate the difficulty of your position," said Dumbledore. "Why else do you think I have not confronted you before now? Because I knew that you would have been murdered if Lord Voldemort realized that I suspected you." Malfoy winced at the sound of the name. "I did not dare speak to you of the mission with which I knew you had been entrusted, in case he used Legilimency against you," continued Dumbledore. "But now at last we can speak plainly to each other... No harm has been done, you have hurt nobody, though you are very lucky that your unintentional victims survived... I can help you, Draco." "No, you can't," said Malfoy, his wand hand shaking very badly indeed. "Nobody can. He told me to do it or he'll kill me. I've got no choice." "He cannot kill you if you are already dead. Come over to he right side, Draco, and we can hide you more completely than you can possibly imagine. What is more, I can send members of the Order to your mother tonight to hide her likewise. Nobody would be surprised that you had died in your attempt to kill me -- forgive me, but Lord Voldemort probably expects it. Nor would the Death Eaters be surprised that we had captured and killed your mother -- it is what they would do themselves, after all. Your father is safe at the moment in Azkaban... When the time comes, we can protect him, too. Come over to the right side, Draco... you are not a killer..." Malfoy stared at Dumbledore. "But I got this far, didn't I?" he said slowly. "They thought I'd die in the attempt, but I'm here... and you're in my power... I'm the one with the wand... You're at my mercy..." "No, Draco," said Dumbledore quietly. "It is my mercy, and not yours, that matters now." Malfoy did not speak. His mouth was open, his wand hand still trembling. Harry thought he saw it drop by a fraction -- But suddenly footsteps were thundering up the stairs...

Hey !!! I've got the english edition (the spanish has not been published, we still and still and still have to wait until February 23rd), from Bloomsbury, page 552, and I don't have that line either ..."He cannot kill you if you're already dead", but after reading all your post I realized I don't have these other lines: Nobody would be surprised that you had died in your attempt to kill me -- forgive me, but Lord Voldemort probably expects it. Nor would the Death Eaters be surprised that we had captured and killed your mother -- it is what they would do themselves, after all. Why do they do this? do I have to buy the books at the US to have the complete book ? Are we missing something important? I'm really disappointed!!!
