I just said that to get your attention so you'd come in to abuse me. This topic would just get lost among the clutter otherwise.
But this topic is actually about the mysterious R.A.B.

Soooo...now that I've got your attention.

I think RAB could be either Borgin or Burkes.
Is either of them not mentioned in the books? That could mean they are dead.
I know Mr Borgin was in the 2nd book when Harry travelled by Floo powder into Knockturn alley.

Mr Burke was mentioned in the 6th book when young Voldemort was visiting Hepzibahs house and looking at his future horcruxes.
But that happened years and years ago, when Voldemort hadn't finished making his horcruxes. So maybe Mr Burke found out somehow and destroyed the locket. He hasn't been mentioned in the early books at all, has he? So maybe he's dead. He would have had something against Voldemort to destroy the horcrux.
Maybe he was chasing up the locket which had maybe disappeared. I don't know. Too many maybe's.

Any ideas and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I thought we settled this one.
It was Regulus Black, with the help of Kreacher, who still has the locket.
(It took two people, and the boat would only carry one adult wizard.)
They managed to get the locket home, but Regulus was murdered
before he could figure out how to destroy the horcrux.

Did we?
I think it's most likely Regulus but I thought I'd throw this theory out there, just to see what people thought.
But I'm not sure JKR would make it obvious like Regulus.

I think it's only obvious to geeks like us who
examine every line backward and forward.
The normal people will be sufficiently surprised.

P.S. Maybe that's why Kreacher is crazy.
He drank the poison or assisted in a failed attempt
to destroy the locket or something like that.

Hmm, this is true. I was speaking to a friend of mine who reads HP but doesn't agonise over the mysteries in the books ( in other words, a normal person!) and I put it to her that it might be Regulus Black.
She was thoroughly surprised and now believes that he is RAB.
She had never thought of that possibility so maybe you are right.

OMG, I had thought the same thing, but everyone had told me I was crazy. Normal people are too creepy for me, so I usually ignore them. Oh, and good way to grab my attention, I am now SO glad that you didn't mean it, lol!

"Normal people"? lol, that makes me laugh. Well anyways, I don't think it'll be Regulus cuz like .. everyone I've asked says that it will be him. So come on! JK has got to be smarter than that. (i hope?)

I like your idea about the book people! Were their last names mentioned?

Yeah. Alright seriously, you got me too with your tricky... well trick. I'm here to hear the rantings of a weirdo and instead I get logical thoughts that I can not argue against; thought we'd moved from chatroom to fight club but no. *disappointed sigh* heehee

We did meet either Borgins or Burkes in the 6th when Malfoy is talking to him about the vanishing cabinet remember? (I'd go and get the book and check which one but it's too hot to move. Sorry) Therefore, at least one of them can't be 'B' we're looking for.

So glad everyone agrees that Kretcher had to have gone with Regulus to get the locket. They were my thoughts too. Why do we think Reggie was murdered though? Sirius (in the 5th) says that he thought reggie had got scared by something about being a Deatheater so ran away and got murdered. I don't think he was murdered but that he died of the poison swallowed (with Kretchers help) to get the locket.

I'm presuming that the locket is in Kretcher's little nest in the cupboard with the boiler along with Col. Mustard and that bloodied lead pipe. (Sorry if this thought is 'yawn';'been there down that' but I've been away a long time visiting the 'normals' and am not up on the postings yet). Did Reggie have time to stop it from being a Horcrux before he died? Is that why they couldn't open it when they were tidying up the Black's house?- if it's the same locket of course. How do you stop it being a horcrux?? dumby forgot to relate that ratehr imprtant bit of info didn't he.

I think RAB is Reg but for the sake of a conversation, what do you think about Amelia Bones murder? Wasn't she the minister for underage magic?? What would the Death Eaters want with her? Maybe RAB has something to do with the Bones's???

Having a swing - with pike- onto a tangent, what do you reckon about Olivander being kidnapped? Is it just to find out about the 'brother wands can't fight against each other' thingo?? Pretty drastic action for a tit bit of info isn't it?

I agree with your theory about Keacher (forgive me if that is misspelled!!) drinking the potion.
