We are led to believe that Olivander was obducted by Voldemort - why? Does it have to do with the similar wands used by Harry and Voldemort?

Hmmm...I was wondering the same thing, she wouln't have made a note of it unless it tied in with the story somehow.Maybe I'm wrong and it was juast another random event thrown in.??????????

Interesting, I gather that you think Olivander is in hiding as opposed to being abducted. That could explain the sudden disappearance and no sign of a struggle. It makes for a better story and a potential advantage for Harry over Voldemort - I like it.

Yes I think he is in hiding, kind of like Slughorn did at the begining of HPB. He knows what kind of trouble Voldemort can be with his powers. Remember him saying he did "great things, terrible, but great" in the first book, so I would not want to stick around either if possible. He probably would have known that he would be looked in on from Voldemort. He doens't want to risk it at all.

I didn't think about Olli going into hiding. Why though?? What has he, particularly, got to fear from Voldy?? I'm sure they say something about the Deatheaters having Oli as "strengthening their side considerably". Maybe I'm making that up. Whatever. Why is he so important?? And alive? The bizzo about the 'brother wands' would necessitate questioning but why kidnap? Then again, didn't they also kidnap the guy who ran the icecream palour? Maybe the Voldy wants revenge not only served cold but also with a dollop of chocolate chip on the side. Maybe Olivander and Mr Whippy have run off together for a bit of private wand duelling-if you know what I mean *wink wink* heehee. Maybe the Deatheaters really, really like their icecream whipped by particular Olivander wands. Maybe.. ohhh, all these 'maybe's' have given me a ice cream headache

I would think he would be important to have -- He remembers every wand he has ever sold. He knows what the properties are for each wand and who has it and what each wand is best at doing. He could be used for bad things if Voldemort had gotten him. He has the best understanding as to why Harry's wand and Voldemorts wand reacted the way it did when they fought eachother in book 4.

Voldemort doesn't just gently question someone and then politely let him go. If the interview became common knowledge, that would tell Harry more than Voldemort wants him to know. |

In truth, we all know that Voldemort is really kind a dumb and desperate, so he's bound to make mistakes in the coming days. Plus, because he's desperate, he probably did kidnap Olli, and is trying to get all sorts of info out of him! Dud dun dun! ![]()
