Don't forget that as soon as Harry bought that wand from Ollivander before he even started school Ollivander wrote to Dumbledore about the sale of that wand. If Ollivander were on the dark side he wouldn't have been writing to an arch-enemy of the dark.

I just finished reading this thread and the one about the horcruxes and came up with a slightly different idea. Maybe at some stage Voldemort used the wand of someone that he murdered to make a horcrux. I'm not sure what happens to someone's wand once they die, but maybe they eventually end up back in Ollivanders shop. Also going along with the idea that this horcrux was somehow tied to either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor maybe the wand had either once belonged to one of them, or else it was taken of one of Voldemort's victims who he believed to be a descendant of either hufflepuff or gryffindor. Or else possibly it is Lily's wand, which is apparently supposed to be important.

I thought I heard somewhere that the wand gets snapped in half when someone dies.
Then again, Neville was using his father's wand.
Oh -- his father didn't die. Never mind.

Anyway, I'm not following this theory.
Is the wand itself a horcrux?
What would that do?

If the or a wand itself was a horcrux it would probably mean that touching it would be really dangerous because it would probably be protected with quite a few charms.

If Voldemort murdered someone, he wouldn't have to snap their wand.
