Okay, this may be thrown out there a bit, but after reading all the posts in this topic it got me thinking. Back when Serius died in OOTP, JKR sortof slowed down and put in a lot of details when he fell in the vail. Dumbledore had the whole chapter about the funeral but was it truly the same? Or was JKR trying to tell us something? Well these are my thoughts. Keep the posts comming!!

You may have a point, but, I am leaning towards Dumbledore being dead. If he wasn't dead his potrait wouldn't appear in his office (McGonagall's office) would it? I mean I'm sure the potrait (or whatever makes them) would know if he was really dead or not. I know they have moving pictures and stuff of living people but JKR called it a potrait in the book. I guess we'll find out if its a picture or a potrait when Harry sees it in book 7. My guess though is that Dumbledore is dead. No matter how much I hate the fact! But, your comment intrigures me and makes me wonder if MAYBE just maybe. . .

Does anyone have any supporting arguments for Dumbledore being alive? I don't but then again I wasn't looking for clues to that theory when I re-read. I was only looking for Snape being on the good side clues, although when I did re-read the passage about Dumbledore making Grawp a cave to live in it stood out to me as though it was a possibility that Dumbleodre may have made the cave to stay in also??? I wrote that down but never found any supporting passages so I dropped it!

Another theory I had when re-reading was the fact that Regulus Black's name was metioned exactly 3 times in book 6! There is a web site called something like HP SLEUTHS that tells you what JKR's clues are and how to find them. One of her clues according to this site and someone named Galadreil (spelled wrong I'm sure) Waters is that if JKR metions something 3 times its a clue therefore the name Regulus Black could be a clue, and also his initials are perfect for the locket initials! I'm sure most people already believed it was Regulus as did I, I just thought the thrice mentioned name made it seem more solid!

Okay, I hope to hear from someone soon!

As much as it breaks my heart to say it,I don't think they are commin' back(Sirius,Albus).I kept my hopes up in book five for the same reason,Sirius was one of my favorite characters and I just could not believe he was gone.I understood things the way I wanted to.I thought to myself "he fell through the veill but it did not say he died and then fell through the veill,so he might still make a comeback in book six.But instead of that I faced a new tragedy, another of my favorite characters died. That's when I thought "hmmm.....I'm strating to suspect Sirius is not commin' back".Of my favorite characters, there still remains the twins(god I don't know how I could do without their,ummm......"sens of humor" to say it one way) and one of the least liked characters,Severus Snape(he is such a complex character,he hated Harry's father but still he keeps saving Harry's life whenever he can for starters).Hmmm......only thing I can think of to keep my hopes up is that Dumbledore was closely related to the Phoenix(his Patronum was a Phoenix, his pet was a Phoenix and at the end a curtain of white smoke came out of his tomb in the form of......yup you guessed it,a Phoenix).I truely wish for him to come back, but honestly I don't think he will be back.Just like the case of Luke Skywalker being the one destined to defeat Darth Vader, not the legendary
Obi-Wan-Kenobi(who died) nor the all knowing, wise and powerfull master Yoda(who also died). But let us wait and see.

It makes perfect sense and goes along with my theories about othe things that seem to be going on in the background.

Well, tell us your theories then! Come on, I stuck my neck out and posted my possibly "preposterous" theory! We're probably all way off base but like GreenEyedWitch said its fun to hear others theories and thoughts.

And Dear Dear SiriusBlack, thank you for posting longer than me! I was beginning to think I might talk too much! I have never been accused of that I'm sure (HA)! Really though, I think you supported my theory and I'd love to hear more!

To anyone else who might still be reading this topic...even and especially if you do not agree with this theory, please debate with us. We won't scream too loud and we won't bite so join in! We have 2 more years to come to our own conclusions and discussing our theories would fill the time nicely. Plus, when the 7th book finally comes out you will be able to say "I told ya so", but not if you don't post so get to posting!

I have been thinking that it is stange how DD is going on and on to Malfoy about how it can be made to seem as if he were dead, how everyone could be made to believe it. Right after that the death-eaters arrive to interupt the conversation. As Snape arrives DD is practically begging him to do something. Perhaps that something is the same thing Hagrid overheard them arguing about, the same thing Snape didn't want to do anymore. Perhaps DD is supposed to be made to seem dead. It seems to me that if "everyone" believe DD is dead then he could more effectively search and destroy certain artifacts. As for the argument that DD and Snape could not have been planning to "kill" or fake the death of DD because no one else knew about it. How do we know that? Harry didn't know, but he couldn't for this plan to be effective Harry would need to grieve for DD. And lest we not all forget he isn't exactly the best at hiding his thoughts. As for Malfoy, I think he hasn proven to at least not be a cold-blooded killer. I would not be surprised to see him and Harry end up working together by the end. The way Snape hurried Malfoy away is one more sign that he is not on the side of Voldemort as well. We know that disobeying the direct orders of the dark lord woul not garner protection from his loyal followers instead one might imagine it would be cause for death. Therefore if Snape was really working on the side of Voldemort then he would have killed or at least attacked Malfoy for not following through.
That's as much time as I have for now,but I will be back to finish my theories. Let me know what you think.

SiriusBlack,

You have some very good points! I didn't think his telling Malfoy about the pretending to be dead thing was important at the time but now that I know Dumbledore was just fixing to die at the time he said it, it makes a bigger impact!
If my theory is correct and Dumbledore knew he was fixing to die, then maybe just maybe that bit of conversation was some foreshadowing to his going into hiding? Makes sense! And, the point you had about Dumbledore being able to hunt down and destroy the Horcruxes more freely if people thought he was dead is excellent!

I am still leaning towards Dumbledore being dead for real but the weight has shifted a little with your post! Keep 'em coming!
