*Shrugs* You didn't address any of my the points I was trying to make Psy, but even then- Severus was never one of the leading candidates for the "healthy" category. He can't really be comapred to normal people and emotional/behavioral standards.

Sorry. I didn't see posts 8 & 9, from Elmoro and you. I don't know why. I was just responding to Gingobibble.

In addition, I felt this pairing, even one-sided, was alluded to throughout the series- here is proof. Decently accurate prediction from 2005, and that certainly wasn't the earliest the idea was out there.
I can see that now, but it doesn't make it any less gross.

...If JKR had tried to pin a 20 year love on any other character, it would have "creepy" and "patchetic" but really, that love, however obsesssive, is part of Severus' character.
It still didn't work.

Heathcliff, from Wutherinng Heights... Severus is the HP version of Heathcliff as far as love goes...
I never got around to that one. I have a feeling I wouldn't like it.

This whole topic is giving me flashbacks.
In my misspent youth, I often tried to be nice to people who weren't very popular. I wasn't flirting -- just being polite and letting pathetic loosers talk. Drug addicts, derelicts... And I was always surprised when they imagined a relationship that never existed. Oops, I did it again.

It wasn't flattering. You have one, single conversation with an incredibly lonley person and a month later he comes back with a full-blown fantasy and a serious marriage proposal... (shudders) ...excuse me, I think I need to go and drown myself in the shower for a few days...

(I may be old and decrepit now, but I used to be hot.)

*Stares for a few seconds, then breaks into uncontrollable laughter*.
I meant that if you think about those memories of Severus when he still really young, a student, and you work forwards in time for there instead of backwards, from the Marauders' Hogwarts time to the present, everything seems more likely.
Well, I for one have adjusted to the idea. It didn't feel as though, out of nowhere, this was just sprung on us, which was sometimes the case. Romances with buildup rarely feel gross to me- only rarely incompatable.
At the risk of sounding like a shrink, I think part of your dislike of the pairing has a lot to with your own experiences with romance similar, but unpleasant.
Still: ROFLMAO. XD

This is the most damn fun I have had in weeks. LOL and tearing up--Teddy, miss and adore you, little friend. Even the snarkiest of us have a soft spot.

You are so right about Heathcliff. I agree wholeheartedly. That tortured soul is a staple in classic literature and I think JKR nailed that one!!

Yes, double posting, so sue me.

Black Hand Gang--I am curious about your screen name. Am I wrong that this Serbian group included the assassins of Archduke Ferdinand, effectively setting in motion the First World War?

If I am mistaken, kindly disregard--not bothering to look it up. If not, interesting choice!!!

In real life, it would be beyond pathetic.
I think some people find love ONCE in a lifetime. It is not unreasonable to think that If we found someone that was so compatible to us and we believed them to be perfect (adoration)...that all other subsequent relationships would pale by comparison and therefore be much less satisfying.

Are you referring to the showdown in book 7 when voldy shrugs off Harry?Because Voldy says ;" He (Snape) said there were plenty of others more worthy of him"

....one could assume he did go out with other's ... but I think he just said that to throw Voldy off his scent as he pined after Lilly ...perhaps trying to find someone but never finding anyone like her. Come to think of it ..I have met many single adult men and women who have said they have never found the right person for them

What did I miss? Who is Julie? Shirl, what is wf? Isit what we say as WTF without the the? LOL

I think if you mean Cathy and Heathcliff, I think there are as many relationships out there like that as the ideal. Maybe Lilly wasn't always as perfect as she appears, and played head games with Severus, or hurt him purposely every once in a while in a very Cathy-like way. Let's just say she did, and Severus--Like Heathcliff--cared anyway. That type of relationship is destined to end tragically.

You had to see it coming!~!
