I think you've got a fair point here. Dd's death scene and aftermath, while given a large chunk of the book's total (as would be expected) seemed to be loaded with purposefully unanswered questions. I got a curious feeling about it from the start. Now, that much said, I have a question that's been nagging my mind for a bit... In the chapter when Dd takes Harry to the cave to find the horcrux, Dd drinks the liquid in the stone basin. I don't know exactly what the potion was meant to do, but the general idea (from what I've read on message boards) is that the words Dd is speaking are the words Snape had spoken years earlier to convince him of his trustworthiness and reform. I have to pause here and say one thing: I have never, in any of the books so far, questioned Dumbledore's judgement. I'm not implying he's infallible, just that he's got his head and heart exactly where they should be. Doesn't it strike anyone as odd that Snape's words are coming out of Dumbledore's mouth? Is it logical that Dd, seized by some powerful and likely fatal potion, should be reliving someone elses memory? I mean, even if this was the one memory that Dd was forced to recall, shouldn't it be his own words and not Snape's? Based on that single observation, I'm not convinced that Dd is dead: I'm not even convinced that it was Dumbledore who accompanied Harry to the horcrux cave. Any thoughts? |

| Yes, I don't think that Dd was reliving Snape's memory, I think he was reliving one of his own. Because he shouted something to the effect of "NO...I DID IT PUNISH ME NOT THEM...BEAT ME... THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING...THEY DON'T DESERVE IT!" Those are not the kind of words Snape would ever even dream of uttering. Snape hates himself wayyyyy too much to say such brave and noble things. Snape strikes me as the kind of person who would grin like the Cheshire cat at the sight of an innocent person being beaten to a bloody pulp for a crime he committed. Especially if that person were a child. However those sentiments do fit perfectly with DDs character. |

| I think deep down we all want Dumbledore to be alive again don't we? there is a fan site that gives loads of good reasons why he really is. It's called www.dumbledoreisnotdead.com check it out, it has been very cleverly worked out. Gave me some hope anyway. Book six was a lot calmer than the previous book simply because Dd was in it so much, we got used to his reassuring presence, felt all safe and warm, then had him snatched away at the end. I cried through the last three chapters, specially every time Hagrid did! |

| Just as soon as I thought we could have peace with the 'Sirius isn't dead' crowd, a new one pops up. So why did J.K. write that dumbledore died, if he didn't? Why spend a chapter on a funeral, and la-de-da. He's dead, ok? You don't have to like it, but you gotta accept it. Dumbledore tells Harry everything Harry has to do to defeat voldermort in book six. He's fulfilled his purpose. Harry must be the leader of the light. He must fight- not be endlessly protected by others! J.K. eliminates dumbledore because he stands in the way of the plot. How can Harry claim to defeat voldermort if dumbledore's holding his hand the whole way? This is something harry will do, or lead by himself. Dumbledore has fulfilled his assignement in book six by telling harry all he needs. Please, leave denial already. When JK kills a charecter, she kills the charecter- not kinda sorta kills them, but flat out kills them. Sirius didn't come back, and Dumbledore, for all his greatness, ain't coming back either. |
