The final horcrux is tom riddles award for special services to the school. it fits in every way dumbledore described in HBP. See thread about nagini as a horcrux for full explanation.

Here is my reasoning i put in another thread..... the last horcrux is his award for special services to the school, in CoS. It fits Dumbledore's description that Riddile liked "to collect trophies, and he prefered objects with a powerful magical history. His pride, his belief in his own superiorty, his determination to carve for himself a startling place in magical history; these things sugest to me that Voldemort would have chosen his horcruxes with some care, favoring objects worthy of honor." It is a "trophy" worthy of enough honor to be held in the trophy room. It is a part Hogwarts history, and it makes him superior to even his own parents, who had no such awards or trophies. Finally, it carved him a place in history during a dark time at Hogwarts.

This is a very good theory! But Tom didn't know he'd get the award for framing Hagrid. When would Tom have had posession of the trophy to conduct the spell that turns it into a Horcrux, it seems that the awards stay at the school. if it is such a horrible spell then Hogwarts would have some kind of protection against doing it inside the walls just like no apperating. wouldn't they? who did he kill to split the soul (he didn't actually kill Myrtle the basilik did) I wonder if that counts but even if it did Myrtle was dead at least a while before Tom framed Hagrid. the trophy wouldn't even have been in existance when Myrtle died. I don't remember any other mysterious deaths being talked about during his time at Hogwarts. I would assume that the object you want to use as a Horcrux would have to be with you at the time of the murder so that you could put the soul inside the object right away. You can't just run around with a piece of your soul in your pocket! I don't know enough about Horcruxes to make a good judgement on this one. These are just some questions I have in regards to the theory that the award is a Horcrux.

i dont think its the trophy, sorry if i dont get this straight but didnt dumbledore already list everything out all harry had to do is find whatevers in godrics hollow and also something from gryffyndor and he would know what everything was, the diary, slys ring, the locket, nigini, ravenclaw, hufflepuff, and gryffyndor? she wouldn't have set any of this into play in the story to not use it.

No, the list Dumbledore gave is as follows: 1. The diary (destroyed) 2. The S. ring (destroyed) 3. The S. locket (whereabouts unknown, note below) 4. The H. cup (whereabouts unknown) 5. Nagini (with Voldemort) 6. The horcrux in question, (Dumbledore suggested it might be an item from either Griffindor or Ravenclaw) 7. The piece of soul left in Voldemort Harry said he felt like he needed to go to Godrics Hollow because it is where it all started for him and he felt like that is where he should start on his quest (HBP pg 650). Dumbledore did not tell him he needed to go there. I know he did not know he was going to get the award, but after he got it, he would have thought it was very special. Now, Dumbledore said that he thought Riddle was looking for another object when he came asking for a job(HBP pg 505). We have no way of knowing how long he had to cast the spell after commiting a murder, but if he had just rescently killed someone, he might have been ready to create a horcrux, and perfomed the spell on his way out, settling for the trophy. Or, he might have come for the trophy all along and created the horcrux befor or after the meeting with Dumbledore. Plus, the book does not say that a murder must be commited with the intention of creating a horcrux in order for it to count. It only says that commiting such an act splits the soul (HBP pg 49 As far as Myrtle goes, how is commanding the basilisk to kill muggles any different than say shooting a wild spell into a crowd? No matter who the victim ends up being, it's still murder. The basilisk was merely the weapon he used. I think, however, that hers was the death that gave him the piece of soul for the diary. I don't think there would have been any spells cast to prevent horcruxes being formed. That would imply that they were worried about the possibility of it happening. If they were to go that far, there would have been spelles to stop most of the stuff that Harry, Ron and Hermione did, like making the polyjuice potion or to keep students from jinksing each other. As it is, the protective spell are increased as the possible danger increases. They are not there all the time for every possible thing that might happen. And until they got the real memory from Slughorn, he was the only one who knew that anyone at Hogwarts would even consider it. Finally, what better place to keep such an item than under the protection of Dumbledore himself. It's a slap in Dumbledore's face to leave it with him.
