I forgot about the locket. As everyone esle has pretty much figured out, it has to be the locket they could not open at Sirius' house. But I don't think Mundungus has taken it. I bet that Kreacher has it and that he helped Regulus get it from the cave. I also think he hid it and that is why Harry needed to get the house and Kreacher, so that he can make Kreacher give it to him.

thats a really good idea about kreacher being the helper, and it could explain why d wanted to make sure harry got the house instead of bella or narcissa, but if its the same locket from the house then they found it while cleaning the house and so that would mean the locket had only been in the potion for a little while when D and harry found it and sirius made it sound like his brother had been dead for a while, thus it couldn't be reguelas, if you truly believe the lockets are the same

I am confused. How does it give any kind of time reference. The books say Regulus joined the death eaters then got scared when he realized what they were up to. As far as when they found it, it had been sitting in the house since before Regulus died, and he was either killed before it was destroyed or after, but either way he had it. That is why it was in the house when they were cleaning.

well if regulas is dead then it would make sense that he left it with say his mother to keep it safe. so if we asume that the locket is found and is in the house then we have to consider JKR told us where too finfd the remainder of he items, any guesses?

when sirius talks about his brother's death its in the past tense so thats why i believed he has been dead for a while so if he got the real locket from the cave and brought it to the house it would have been a while ago, but that still works, but what do you mean by it being destroyed? by whoo and where, and what book do you get this from, cuz i most have missed it

Sorry, the part about him dying befor or after the locket was distroyed was stated wrong. We don't know whether Regulus was able to destroy the horcrux or not befor he was killed. When Harry destroy the diary horcrux in CS, the book was still there. It did not disappear or anything, it was just ruined. Maybe Regulus did destroy the horcrux part of the locket, and the locket itself is all they found while cleaning. My guess though is that he didn't get a chance to destroy it, but it is possible.

By the way, the Black family tree indicates that Regulus had been dead about 15 years in OP, now 16 years.

The final horcrux is tom riddles award for special services to the school. it fits in every way dumbledore described in HBP. See thread about nagini as a horcrux for full explanation.

that's a good theory but i'm not exactly sure. would he display a horcrux? the tropy for special services to the school does dsound like voldemort, but i don't think he would display part of his soul in a displayed trophy, and how would he get his soul into the trophy without breaking into hogwarts?

Of course he would display it. It is a show of his arrogance. It's says to everyone, hey look, I not only fooled Dumbledor, I had him help me stay immortal. Plus, if you think about from JKR's point, as far as the story goes, why was the award kept, if people knew Tom Riddle was Voldemort. Dumledore knew, and I am sure other must have known. The identiy of a mass murderer is not something you keep to yourself if he is loose. So, why would Hogwarts keep and display the trophy of such an evil person? Especialy after it was revieled that he was given the award as a result of framing Hagrid? Why else would she(JK) have left it in the school? Not to mention the way it was so casually talked about in COS and HBP, like so many of the other things we skip over and then say "how did I miss that?".

JKR has a knack for showing us all the clues we need, to figure out the pluzzle, and hide them so well. Maybe it's just me, but I know I have skimmed over most of the clues she leaves, and don't see the pieces fall together till she puts the last one in place. It is only now, in HBP, that I have been able to guess where she is going, and that is only about 80% of the time in this book. I think she has done a wonderful job of making so many pieces from all 6 books tie in together, with almost no, if any, contradictions. Even the small mistakes she does leave, can be written off as just not having been explained in the book (like not saying when he got his cloak or the maruders map back). All of the pieces of the puzzle point to the award.

I do not think that nagini can be a horcrux because i dont tyhink you can put your soul into something that already has one.
