I didn't follow that at all.

The Blacks thought Voldemort had the right idea, AT FIRST.
They changed their minds later, when they found out what he was really all about.

Yeah i did get a little carried away with that one. Never mind, these huge streaches save me a fortune in yoga lessons though their frequency is becoming repeditive strain. Oh well.

Have you checked out that Jo interview http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/ yet?? Jo's 'clues' are AWFUL but particularly cryptic is her stuff on Reggie (part two). have a read and get back to me

There is one draw back in this entire RAB theory; that being if Regulus was even high up enough in the death eaters, voldermort, never told anyone about the horcruxes(apart from slughorn), that way he could protect his immortality. If regulus had indeed stumbled upon it, voldermort would have killed him himself on the spot.

Finally, ive read on another forum that JKR said it wasnt regulus black.

This is one of the most logical theories I have seen yet. You are a clever one, Mollywobbles!! I have been thinking for a long time as to who R.A.B. may be.! I guess we'll have to wait for the book until we can give you proper kudos, though.

Doesn't Sirius in OoTP (chapter 6, the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black) say that his parents weren't actually death eaters. They did agree with Voldemort's emphasis on purity of blood... but Sirius tells us that others did too. He goes onto tell us that a lot of those people got cold feet when voldemort showed his true colours and what he was prepared to do to get power. So, maybe Sirius' parents pride in Regulus was that he agreed with the pureblood thing... whereas its obvious that Sirius didn't.

There is one draw back in this entire RAB theory; that being if Regulus was even high up enough in the death eaters, voldermort, never told anyone about the horcruxes

The note left with the fake locket suggests that the writer hadn't been told by Voldy re horcruxes, but that they had figured out the Voldy had made horcruxes. Slughorn kind of only knew of the horcruxes by default - Voldy didn't tell him he was making horcruxes, but Slughorn would have figured that out given what he told Voldy when they were at Hogwarts.

Sorry, first paragraph of that last entry was meant to be a quote. Didn't work properly - I need to learn to not try and write stuff here and prep stuff for teaching RE to kids tomorrow at the same time!

Do we know how Regulus died? [/b]
Quote:
...Reggie's death date ("some 15 years before") is on the Blacks' family tree... There must have been confirmation of Reggie's death... Who put the death date on the tree, when and what reason were THEY given for his death? ... [/b]
HBP, chapter six, page 106:
Lupin announced "...they've found Karkaroff's body... surprised he stayed alive for even a year... Sirius's brother, Regulus, only managed a few days as far as I can remember."

We don't know much about it, but the story seems to be common knowledge.
Lupin knows all about it, and doesn't seem to think it's a mystery.
