I know there is a lot of talk about whether or not Snape is evil or was he acting on DD orders to protect his cover. I just have one observation that I have yet to see in any of the other posts:

After Harry catches Snape after the DD incident, he repeatedly attempts to curse Snape and is repeatedly blocked. Is it just me or did Snape seem to be teaching Harry how to fight against powerful wizards during this duel. He kept blocking Harry's spells and not attacking back. Instead he shouts at him about closing his mind and shutting his mouth. Was it to taunt Harry's inability to attack him, or was it to give some last second advice? Irregardless of his intentions, Snape is true to form when he rubs it in that Harry has been learning from his old text all year.

To reply preemptively to the most obvious arguement: I know that he didn't kill Harry because Tom Riddle is after Harry himself, but would that stop him from tourturing Harry a little bit as he obviously has the ability?

Your thoughts?

I thought Snape not allowing Harry to do the evil curses had to do with that the reason he killed Dumbledore was because of the unbreakable promise, not because Snape wanted to. Harry still needed to be good and that was Snape's self-conflict -- the evil promise verus the good. Did Snape make that promise for the Order or for Voldermort?

Is Snape running off with Malfoy to hide him so Malfoy won't be killed?

Or was Hermoine right in pointing out the association between Lord and Prince?

Hmm..... That is quite intresting. Maybe Snape didn't curse Harry, because he was to busy trying to block the curses himself... I don't know... And wether Snpe only kille D because of the Unbreakable Vow is another good question.... Man, all these questions.

I was thinking about the idea that Dumbledore wanted to die or it was for a good reason. If he didn't want to die couldn't he have said Accio wand or done it non verbally and put up a fight?

I'm not the only one to notice the Snape dueling advice. (As if there was any chance that I might be). On mugglenet.com today they posted images of an entertainment weekly article about Snape's status as good or bad and cited the possibility that he was giving Harry advice.
Anyway, just glad to not be alone on that one.

I think Snape didn't attack Harry at the end, because he knows Voldemort wants to be the one to kill him. When one of the Death Eaters gets Harry from behind with the Crutiatus curse, Snape lifts the curse from Harry, while telling the Death Eater to leave him alone for the Dark Lord to deal with him.
So, no, I think Snape was merely taunting him.

You all bring to light some excellent possiblities. Your thoughts got me thinking. When DD is pleading with Snape perhaps he was pleading with Snape to kill him. Here is a theory... If Snape was still in the Order and was not back with the death eaters, would Snape have told DD of both the unbreakable vow he had made AND of the serious threat to Malfoy. DD, being the kind of man he was, would have wanted to spare Malfoy the final decision of being a killer and DD would have then been saving Snape's life as well. Perhaps, DD and Snape had discussed this prior and that is what DD was pleading for. For Snpae to follow a pre-arranged plan. As DD had told Harry before they went to the cave, he MUST follow ALL DD orders, even if he didn't want to. I think it is a possiblity that DD would have sacrificed himeself to save two lives. Snapes and Malfoys. Just something to think about.

Because he is angry with Dumbledore for putting it on his shoulders, even though he knows it is for the best. Maybe it was not relly murder, if he knew he was going to die from drinking what was in the basin anyway.
