I just finished the book and am wondering. Is it possible that Dumbeldore is still alive? When Lupin was recounting how the fight ensued between the death eaters and the Order/students, he mentioned that a Death Eater, I think "Gibbon" dies because someone shot a Killing curse. Could Dumbledore have shot that thereby committing a killing act that would have allowed him to split his soul? Could there be a horcrux holding half of Dumbledore's soul? Now granted, Slughorn did say, I think, that doing such an act is really less preferable than death--that no one would want it. However, if any wizard could make it appealing, it could be Dumbledore. Is this possible? Thoughts?

I guess we'll have to wait till book seven to find out, but if I were a betting man I would say not a chance. Horcruxes were pretty plainly categorized as evil and result in a terrible existence prior to reestablishment into a body. Furthermore, DD never expressed any desire to avoid death in any of the books. He also avoided killing voldemort when he had the chance in book five because "there are worse things than death." It would be very out of character for dumbledore to kill anyone to stay alive via dark magic.

Hi--just joined here! How about bringing back the time-turner thingy that Hermione used in book 3 for her Arithmancy class, and that she and Harry used to save Sirius and Buckbeak? Would Harry try to get hold of one through Arthur Weasley, and go back to warn Dumbledore or change things?
