| Harry's prophecy says that either he must kill Voldemort or he must die. However is there a way to break a prophecy so to speak. Can there be another possible out come? Could both die? Could both live? I'm just wondering if a prophecy is a sure thing, does it tell the auctual future or just one possible outcome? |

| karma: Yep, this is a big one. We've talked about this point on this site a fair bit. Look at 'Character Analysis' and 'Voldemort's Got Harry's Blood...???' topics which are both in the 'Leaky Culdron' down 'Diagon Alley', on this site, for these discussions. They turn up kinda all over the place as well. Does a prophecy mean that something is destined to happen? Does it mean, therefore, that the people have no choice but to let the fates wash over them; determine their every action and reaction???? Totally fatalistic. Does a prophecy mean that a possible event or outcome, has been 'forseen'?? Does this mean that there are other possible events and outcomes that just so happen to have not been 'foreseen' but are just as likely???? Does the fact that you hear about a prophecy make those 'possible events and outcomes' MORE possible??/ That, because you are more aware of these 'foreseen' events and outcomes, they are the ones you'll concentrate on and therefore, they have more chance of occurring because you knew they could???? Kinda like when you read your horoscope and it says "A tall dark stranger will enter your life" so you go around being extra attentive to men who happen to be above average height, mideum to dark haired and not dog ugly and, strangely enough, you WILL probably score!! Where does this leave our Harry??? Just 'cause Dumbledore said that some sappy, wanna-be said "each has to die at the others hand" and "one can not live while the other lives" (is that it?) therefore our Harry HAS to get thrown into the gladitorial pit with THE most powerful wizard???? I'd by hiding under the donna until they all went away myself A Personal 'I believe in prophecy' Test: If you were about to board a plane and someone came up to you and said "I foresee that you will die or kill another if you board that plane" would you board the plane? Would your reaction change if someone you really admired and trusted, believed what this 'foreseer' said about you?? Would you enjoy the flight just as much after hearing this prediction?/ Would it influence your attitude to the flight? Prophecies are a strange thing because even if they don't come true, they influence they way you behave and see the world. Is that fair?? Is this prophecy forewarning Harry or forcing him into a duel that he has little chance of winning??? |
