Default Let Me Clear Up a Flawed Theory
I know that Harry Potter series is over with, but I still want to clear up a flawed theory.
There is no way Dumbledore would have used a horcrux to stay alive.
Horcrux is dark magic and is evil.
You would have to kill someone in order to stash your soul. Dumbledore wouldn't not kill someone.

I don't think the horcrux has anything to do with voldemorts opinion.
Dark magic would follow the wizarding world's order of things.
The making of a horcrux would follow wizarding understanding.

I don't recall anywhere in the series that a wizards' soul would split upon killing an animal or magical creature. When they were going to execute Buckbeak for injuring Malfoy.... There wasn't any discussion or concern that the executioner's soul would split.

An interesting thought would be whether your soul would split if you killed an elf or goblin... What do you think?

Voldemort just used this knowledge to preserve himself and to try to make himself immortal and untouchable.

Ants don't really think or have emotions. Dogs and Hippogriffs, on the other hand, are sometimes smarter than certain people *points at Sara when she's not looking*...

That's probably more a matter of personal opinion- while I think animal abuse and mindless slaughter and especially the push to extinction is despicable, soul magic has its own rules. (Still wouldn't give up my meat, like it way too much.)
