I have only one question, "Where did Snape learn all the dark arts?" It says that in his first year he knows more hexes and such than most 6th years. Where in the world did he get this information? From the memory Harry accidentally extracts, I can be pretty certain it is not his mother. She seems too cowed to do such a thing. Besides, if his father hates magic that much, surely anything having to do with the subject would be removed from his sight and hidden well. So there can't exactly be a library of dark arts books on the premises. Also, I don't recall any indication that Mrs. Prince/Snape dabbled in the dark arts at all. But hey, I could be mistaken.
So that brings us to his friends. Until his first or second year at Hogwarts I doubt he had any wizard friends. (Honestly, I'm not sure he had any friends at all.) His father probably wouldn't permit it. Yet, it says that he knows more HIS FIRST YEAR. He grew up in a muggle neighborhood from what we can tell. So who taught him all this stuff? Does he have some other relative, perhaps a grandparent, who instructed him in the dark arts and detested muggles? Or, to be even more sinister, did the Dark Lord pick him out as a child due to some strange feeling of kinship? There are certainly a whole lot of similarities between the two.  |
