Half-Blood Prince

i think the hbp is dudley. atm its quite boring with harry going to his aunts and uncles in the holidays, his "blood" relitives dont play much of a part in harry's life. this book can/will completley change that.
my theory is that petunia wanted to be a whitch and lilly got into hogwarts insted of herself, that is why she holds such a serious grudge towards her dead sister. she has whitch potential in her, and also blood, which explaines why dudley would be the hbp.

jkr said in an interview "the half blood prince is not an introduced character it's an original character" "a character most would never expect" - dudley!
and the howler petunia recieved, which led her to allow harry to stay in their home, she also knew of voldomart, only a person of the wizardry world would know his name and how fearfull he is. she must of at one stage been conected with the wizardry world, or is she still conected?

i think everone is leaning towards neville being the hpb, its to obvious, same with hagrid.in jkr's eyes obvious is uninteresting, and no-one who dares write a 6th book would want it to be uninteresting, for if not for fans sake but from a profitable point of view.

what does everyone else think?

Dudikins hey?? You make a very convincing argument but JKR has also said that our Peti. is all muggle. So unless Uncle Vernon is a wizard - now there's a thought! - Dudley remains our beloved dud. We evidently do find out what he saw when the dementors attacked him which will be interesting.

Yes I totally agree that Peti. has had contact with the magical world. Infact, JKR said in an interview, that the letter left with Harry on the doorstep as a baby was not the first letter Dumbledore had sent to Petunia. So, what did Dumb. and Peti. have to talk about AND - yes you are right - how does Peti. know stuff about the magical world (Azkaban for eg.) AND why does Peti agree to keep Harry so obviously against her will ?????

Hagrid can't be the HBP. JKR has said that Hagrid - like Flitwick (whose half goblin) - is a half breed not a half blood.

You're right, we don't know about the genealogy of Neville. Maybe he is the HBP. However, if we read the other enthralling and very clever postings that have come before, we discover that someone ('headless hunt' I'm pretty sure) has posted a quote that describes the HBP. The description does not sound like a young person at all: long hair like an old lion and, though still walking with dignity, a limp (something like that. Look for the original 'cause I'm not doing it justice. The original is either on this board or on the 'character analysis' or 'another wizard dies' board 'cause we do kind of end up talkin gabout who this HBP is a lot). I've racked/ wrecked my brains and can't think of anyone who is the slightest bit like this.

We are giving hints that there might be somekind of link between CoS and HBP (CoS was titled HBP for quite a while and CoS is meant to foreshadow HBP in someway). Therefore, as you can see from previous postings, we have toyed with the idea that some character (maybe) from CoS is the HBP. Zonko (a genuinely lovely bloke who you're sure to have the pleasure of meeting V. soon) has suggested that it might be the mysterious spider salesman who gave Aragog to Hagrid. I poo pooed the suggestion (see above) but now ... maybe. After all, it would be pretty typical of our JKR to set us up with some obscure character and marvel at us not guessing at its' importance. As you say, to Her: "obvious is uninteresting".

So where does that leave us?
Reaching for your copy of CoS and watching the PoA movie with a note pad and finger on the pause button if your anything like the rest of us (for an explanation of the PoA reference see 'character Analysis' (I think it's in) on this site).
Who is the HBP? I'm stompked but can't wait to hear who you think it is.

timewalker: Hey mate. It looks like you're not highlighting the whole word that you want to boushy up. If it's gonna work it should read like, for eg.: word. See what I mean? Also, if you wanna change thefont and the color(for eg.), you have to highlight all of it so it will read: [font = Impact] [color = red] word [ /color] [ /font].

What's with the Am. spelling of colour? I prefer the Ausie/ English version 'cause we put u in colour heehee.

Thanks again headless for posting this quote. It has been so important for trying to focus our thoughts on who the HBP is. (Sorry if I'm repeating myself or this doesn't make sense. It's after one in the morning as I'm typing this, it's been a full-on day and I think my auto piolet has taken the last parachute - I'm goin' down!)

So, what do you reckon, does the HBP turn up/ return to help or hinder our Harry?

The book HBP, is linked somehow, in that ever so cryptic and obscure way, to the CoS book and possibly the PoA movie ... ?? Does this mean a character comes more into promenence or just something that was referred to, like a story or a spell, potion,power ...??? I don't think that any of these clues absolutely guarantees that a character that we've heard of in the CoS book, turns out to be the HBP. Though I 'm probably wrong... Sorry. My bed is no longer beckoning, it is now screaming its head (HAY 'bed head' ) off trying to get my attention.

I just found out that Remus Lupin is a half blood. He doesn't fit the description though.
