Cool two cents! What you says does make sense, but I think that Snape is also just protecting his own skin, but now that you list all that, I can see now that Snape might actually be misunderstood. Then again, what he had said to Sirius was very uncalled for! But, I just think I'm still going to keep my mind open to all possibilities. ![]()

Ok I just started rereading the 1st book and I've been picking out subtle clues about Snape. I think from the begining JK has been showing us the true Snape in the little clues. Overall it seems that he doesn't like Harry (becuase of Harry's father and his buddies, Lupin & Black). But he NEVER hurts Harry. He actually does all he can to HELP Harry throughout the books. For example in book one: 1. Snape protected Harry with the counter curse during the Sylitheren vs Gryffindor Quidditch match. 2. Snape followed Quirrell to the hall with Fluffy to stop him. 3. Quirrell was on the dark side and Snape cornered him and reminded him to be loyal to DD. 4. Snape made sure he was the Quidditch ref during the Hufflepuff game so he would be right there if Harry got into trouble again. Ok more clues to come...for I am POSITIVE that Snape is a good guy, a mean and moody guy but a good one. ~Artemisia

Sorry, haven't read the postings so I'm probably repeating something you've all discussed ad nauseum but remember the argument Hagrid overheard between Dumby and Snape? This makes it clear to me that Dumb knew what was about to happenand had made Snape promise to be the one to kill him. Thus saving Malfoy and keeping Snape in with the bad guys therefore able to help the order and Harry. It all makes sense that Dumby had known about the possibility that he was gonna have to be killed and had already organised for Snape to be the one who HAD to do it. just read Artimisia's post and totally agree; Snape is not a bad guy and was doing Dumby's bdding when he killed him.

Both of you clues are really good, and I agree with the whole thing that Dumbledore and Snape had, but I still want to keep an open mind, because I think that he's shown signs that he's on the good side, and that he's shown signs that he's on the bad side.

GreyFlame etal., you are all so much cleverer than I1 i now see the truth.. well, the blurry outline of what ight be the truth anyway. As you can see from my last post, I was SURE that Dumb was right and Sniverus was good. Having read your insightful words and the interview with our Jo on Mugglenet, I'm just not sure any more. It's VERy obsxure-well it is Jo!- but in answer to a questiion about whether or not snape is a bad guy Jo interupts the question by saying "ohh.. yeah.. those wishful thinkers..' or something like thast. (Please note that this is MY interpretation of the reply and I may have misunderstood the context. I'd really appreciate it if others would read the interview and telll me their reading.) I just don't know any more????????? Help

In the foruth book when Voldemort summons all his minions, he says somehting about one of the Death Eaters who he's lost forever, and that's one clue that makes me think Snape is good. In a another book, Voldy says something like one of my servants is really helping me all along. So that gives the clue that Snape is either good or bad. I can't remember it, but there was one clue that led to Snape being bad that Voldy had said. So I'm kind of confused, but if you remember the clue, please tell us!

When I first read half-blood, I honestly was so angry at snape, and though I hate to admit it, I cried when Dumbledore died . Now I've been thinking about it, and I remembered the unbreakable vow, and how snape only took it when Bellatrix pretty much thought he wouldnt right? Snape, as much as he acts tough, can be bullied quite easily. Therefore a simple words of peer pressure can make him act rash. Right? I guess I've thought about the character J.K. made and I really like the books more. Most books you know who is good, and who is bad. This makes me look forward to this new book all the more!
