Maybe Dumbledore wanted to die to leave the path clear for Harry. Maybee he wanted him to do the rest on his own. I'm pretty sure he is dead but , like Baiku said, not gone. But i don't think he's a ghost either. Wandering round the world is not the sort f thing he'd want to do.

First, I do think Dumbledore is dead, i seriously doubt that he would fake his own death. He is no a person that would hide or anything like that. But I think he KNEW that he was going to die that night, and wanted Harry to witness it all. I also think that Snape was acting under Dumbledore orders.

I so agree with you- well the bit I quoted anyway. I reckon Dumby knew exactly what was happening and the risk he was in on that tower -which is why he froze Harry-. I can't help thinking of that line from the first book;
'... to a well organised mind, death is but the next great adventure.'
What better organised mind do we know but Dumbledores??

hermione 1990: Itotally agree with everything you've said. Either you are a genius or I am.. either way.. heehee

A line from the books and emphazied in the 4th movie said by dumbledore "harry when the time comes we must all decide between what is right and what is easy"

Because of this its obvious to me that dumbledore is dead.

The main problem is that Dumbledore's death would serve no purpose.

maybe dumbledore thought harry was relying on him to much. maybe for harry to do what was right, he had to learn not to have to depend on dumbldore. and the only way to do that was for dumbledore to not be there. and if voldemort thought he was dead then he could attack without anyone knowing and maybe kill off a few powerful deatheaters.

I can't remember which book it was from, but Harry realizes that even when people are dead, the power of magic can still allow their voices to be heard. For example, Sirius's mother in Grimmauld Place. I do think Dumbledore's dead, but I think his portrait in his former study will play a significant role in the upcoming 7th book.

Kinda off topic, but I heard somewhere that Jo was going to try and release the 7th book on 7-7-07 or something like that. Seven is the most powerful magic number, so it looks like we will be waiting two years if that is true.

I've been wondering about the portraits. How do they work? Is it just something that mimics the subject or is it a bit of the person in the picture?

It's never been fully explained, but I think that it's a bit of the person portrayed. They express thoughts and opinions, displayed by many of the ex headmasters.

I wonder if they actually think or just say things that the old headmasters used to say? Because is what everybody is saying is true(dumbledores death was planned) then maybe his portrait will give some pre planned bit of information...

My point, exactly.
The APPEARANCE of Dumbledore's death would do a lot of good.
His ACTUAL death would serve no purpose.

That could be important. Could you find it?
Maybe it's toward the end of OoP, after Sirius' death.
Somewhere around the conversation with Nick.

Me, too. I didn't think we had any useful info about that. But now "Darkshine" says we do.
