Why Did Tom Leave Merope?

why did tom riddle senior leave merope who was carrying his son? i'm still stumped, but i'm trying to figure it out. i think he left merope gaunt because he was like Uncle Vernon and didn't want to associate himself with anything out of the ordinary. but couldn't he stay for his son? what do you guys think? <_<

Well he was only with Merope because of the love potion she gave him. When she stopped giving it to him he did not like her did not want to be with her even if she was carrying his child. That is the risk one runs when giving potions like that.

That's more or less what we are led to beleive,because even Dumbledore did not know for sure but that's what he suspected and I'm pretty sure he's right.Also when J K described Merope in the book,well..... she's not describin' a beauty queen.

And apart from that, I think that she might have scared the heck out of him... I mean, he was as muggle as one can be, and she soft of kidnapped him, using magic... practically forced him into marriage (cause he couldn't possibly know what he was doing), and controlled him for about a year! I think she was not right in the head, poor Merope :s

I agreewith you Ginny, and who can really blame her with a family like she had and just wanting to be loved by the one she loved and adored. It would make me crazy being in that family, wouldn't it you?

i think he left her when the potion ran out. I feel bad for her though becuz she probably stopped giving him the potion becuz she thought that maybe he would fall in love with her without it. but she was wrong. it also sucks becuz he left Tom too.
