Help.....what Is Order Of The Phoenix.

Oh please tell me what is the order of the phoenix.

The fifth book - called 'The Order of the Pheonix' - tells us all about the Order. 'The Order' (OotP) is a group of magicals who oppose Voldemort. The 'OotP are like resistance fighters.

The group has been about for at least 15 years (we haven't been told when they formed). We are shown a picture of 'The Original Order of the Pheonix'. The pic includes
Alastor Moody,
Dumbledore.
Degalus Diggle,
Marlene McKinnon (killed "they got her whole family"),
Frank and Alice Longbottom ( he was an Auror. She was tortured too to try to get Frank to tell Deatheaters (LeStrange's, Crouch Jr and others) where Voldemort was hiding after he met Harry/ after V'd fallen) ,
Emmeline Vance,
Benjy Fenwick (dead - "in bits"),
Edgar Bones ("they got him and his family.. he was a great wizard" The Bones family is of course still relevant 'cause Susan Bones is in Harry's year at Hoggers and her Aunt is Ammelia Bones who procided over Harry's hearing in the 5th),
Sturgis Podmore,
Caradoc Dearborn ("never found his body"),

Any other members' names and info you can add about the 'Order' characters (listed in the last post) would be muchly appreciated.

Does anyone know what method of communication the members use (evidently we've seen a member use the method before we knew about he Order...?? and it requires a wand... ???) please tell.

Aberforth Dumbledore...??? am I the only one who thinks he's a strange c haracter???? We've heard about him but don't know where or who he is.
What's the business with "inappropriate charms on goats"....???
Too rude to be brought back into the picture or a character waiting in the wings waiting for his call up...????

You'd have to add Phineas Nigellus to that list. Or at least his picture as its bound to the wishes of the headmaster.

I think all the paintings of old headmasters are bound to honour and help the present headmaster. Remember that one went off to check St Mungo's when Arthur was brought in??? I kinda got the impression that Phineas Nigellius ("the most unpopular headmaster") was very 'dark magicky'; more a Voldemort supporter/ typical Black family member, rather than a member of the Order. What do you think?

I forgot Bill and Charlie Weasley though. I wonder if Fleur Delacour(sp?) has joined the ranks? What about Flitwick? Filch?? What abouut the Hoggers' ghosts??

Bill and Charlie for sure, but everyone else is too young. Phineas may have been whatever during his life, but the picture certainly feels deeply for the loss of Sirius. I think the picture has changed spots, as it were.

BuffyBuff: Aberforth Dumbledore? I thought he was the bar man in the Hog's Head? Dunno where I read that - I'm so crap at actually remembering my sources it's untrue - but I know I've read it somewhere, cause I was really surprised by it. I was expecting Aberforth to come to prominence in a later book. I mean, there's just no hint at all that it's Aberforth behind the bar in OotP, is there? Still, I kind of like him already - inappropriate charms on a goat, indeed - and I hope he comes into the story a bit more in the next couple of books, cause I think he'll be a good source of comic relief.

Also, the method of communication the order might use. I was thinking about that and the only thing I could come up with was in GoF in 'The Madness of Mr. Crouch' chapter. Harry goes to fetch Dumbledore after discovering Mr. Crouch in the grounds and when Dumbledore gets into the ground, he uses his wand to send a silvery something towards Hagrid's hut. A few seconds later, Hagrid appears. Dunno whether it's actually feasible, because I always assumed that was Dumbledore's Patronus - JK has actually said it's important to figure out what Dumbeldore's Patronus is. I might start a forum about that, actually - but whatever it is, it's clearly a form of communication, too.

The bit about Aberforth Dumbledore being the bar man at the Hog's Head is a theory/ a suggestion/ a posting on this site (prob. others). Can't remember where it's posted but if you pop 'Dumbledore's Brother..' into your 'search' shinanigans, I'm sure you'll find it again

I liked the idea of Aberforth as the innkeeper 'cause I can't figure out why anyone would throw the eaves-dropper out the night of Trelawny's prophecy unless they had some vested interest. Therefore, being Dumb's bro, seemed to make sense for a moment. On further introspection however: NAAAAaaaa!!!!!! After rereading the 5th, the guy we meet behind the bar just doesn't seem to give a d.amn (notice how I have to spell the word 'd.amn' in order to actually use it on this site? You try it. I would recommend other wordsa for you to test the censor police thingo on this site on but I'm WAY too busy and mature!!! :P ) about what went on in his pub. A ruse?? / A spy??? A brother????????

Method of Communication: I got the impression that the 'silvery shape' was 'Moody'/Barty Couch Jr. 's invisibility cloak caught in Dumb's Lumos.

We know from when Crouch Jr. is given Veritum (sp?) serum at the end of GoF, that he used the Mauraders' Map to see his Father on the Hogger's grounds, he ran down and stunned Krum, killed his Dad, transfigured his Da's bod. into a bone, hid under his invisibility cloak, run behind Hagrid's hut and bury his Dad/ the bone. Couch Jr's invisibility cloak was in the trunk when Dumb. opened all the locks before he found the imprisoned Moody. Therefore, I assumed it was the silvery shape of Moody's invisibility cloak that Harry and Dumb saw when Dumb. did the 'Lumos'. Nothing to do with a 'Patronus' charm as far as I remember. ???? Sorry mate but I don't reckon that's got much to do with communication either way. Thanks for thinking about it though. Been driving ME crazy!!! Ta

fenrirbound: There's something in Ootp where they explain about the headmasters' portraits owing the present headmaster their service. I'll go looking for it. I really get the feeling that Philleaus does the least and is the most resistant to Dumb's requests for help. He doesn't strike me as a member of the Order. Whatya reckon???

There's a great discussion somewhere - I'll TRY and track it down for you (hang on, ... I think it might be in 'HBP?' haa haaa, right!! Like THAT'll help!!! it IS in one of those 'Who's the HBP?' threads Sorry, I've lost the thread now..... ohhh yeah: ) - about the world/s, the existence and, more relevantly, the autonomy of the subjects of paintings AND photos. V. interesting stuff I think
