from the fifth book here are a few reasons why i now believe that sirius is actually dead Here is what Dumbledore said on page 825 in OotP the American version: "It is my fault that Sirius died," said Dumbledore clearly. "Or should I say almost entirely my fault-I will not be so arrogant as to claim responsibility for the whole. Sirius was a brave, clever, and energetic man, and such men are not usually content to sit at home in hiding while they believe others to be in danger." page 826 in the American version: 'Am I to understand' said Phineas Nigellus slowly from Harry's left, 'that my great-great-grandson - the last of the Blacks - is dead?' 'Yes, Phineas,'said Dumbledore Dumbledore is considered to be the wisest wizard of all time. Would he make this "false" statement twice if he wasn't 100 percent sure that sirius is dead?

here is the death of sirius it's detailed description i believe also contributed to the fact that he is dead. Much emphasis is added to this selection i believe that it shows it's importance Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 35:- Only one pair was still battling, apparently unaware of the new arrival (Dumbledore). Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: he was laughing at her. 'Come on, you can do better than that!' he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room. The second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest. The laughter had not quite died from his face, but his eyes widened in shock. Harry released Neville, though he was unaware of doing so. He was jumping down the steps again, pulling out his wand, as Dumbledore, too, turned towards the dais. It seemed to take Sirius an age to fall: his body curved in a graceful arc as he sank backwards through the ragged veil hanging from the arch. Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather's wasted, once-handsome face as he fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a high wind, then fell back into place. Harry heard Bellatrix Lestrange's triumphant scream, but knew it meant nothing - Sirius had only just fallen through the archway, he would reappear from the other side any second... But Sirius did not reappear. 'SIRIUS!' Harry yelled. 'SIRIUS!' He had reached the floor, his breath coming in searing gasps. Sirius must be just behind the curtain, he, Harry, would pull him back out... But as he reached the ground and sprinted towards the dais, Lupin grabbed Harry around the chest, holding him back. 'There's nothing you can do, Harry - ' 'Get him, save him, he's only just gone through!' '- it's too late, Harry.' 'We can still reach him - ' Harry struggled hard and viciously, but Lupin would not let go... 'There's nothing you can do, Harry ... nothing .. he's gone.' h'e gone was also said by lupin.

The cause of Sirius's death is also very odd. Sirius and Lestrange are the only two left fighting - all the other death eaters have been rounded up. Harry said there was plenty of time to watch Sirius fall from the spell he was hit with - I imagine it was NOT Avada Kedavra since there was no flash of green light - it was probably Stupefy. And Dumbledore and Lupin were RIGHT there - could they not whip Sirius away to safety? Using wingardiam leviosa or anything, they could have prevented him from falling behind the curtain. Sirius should not have died - it was too simple. UPDATED 26.06.03- JKR comments on the 'simple' death and the fact that it was quick and quiet with no big death scene. She said that death is often this way, that a person will suddenly die and she wanted more than anything to be realistic. It just so happened that Sirius's death was quick and not a big scene, for this is how death happens. :-( I heard many other people with this notion - From what Luna said, it seems that the veil was one of the doorways to the afterlife. This leads us to believe that Sirius is in the afterlife, but not necessarily dead. He could be trapped there, everyone thinking that it is impossible to return to this life after being there. Therefore he is as good as dead. But through some desperate act to see Sirius again, Harry may attempt to visit the afterlife aswell, or try and retrieve Sirius.

I totally believe that Sirius is dead. There's something on another site, about Jo saying that magicals can communicate with each other even after death and that mirrors might play a role. My bets on the Erised playing a role rather than the mirror Sirius gave Harry - which is smashed at the bottom of his trunk anyway. Therefore, I think Sirius may well communicate qith the living again but it'll be pretty limited. It would be ashame to make too bigger a deal of Sirius 'coming back' I reckon 'cause dead is dead; let him go and get on with it. Miecha: Ta so much for all your work and thoughts they're great. Why does the Avada curse have to be green? I've discussed this somewhere else on this site but I get the impression that it's the magical and the wand maybe even the passion; the intent behind the spell, that determinews the colour rather than the type of spell. Am I wrong?
