I've heard many theories about the veil and what it might do, but I was curious on what everyone else thought.

Maybe the veil is a way that Dementors are created.. the way the room it was in was set-up almost like the room where the hearing was held. Perhaps it was a way to punish a witch or wizard for doing incredibly horrible crimes..

Just a thought

In the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic, there is a room with no door, only a veil. Harry and Luna heard voices behind the veil but they could see nothing. It was supposed to be the room of dead souls. But if I were a wizard, I wouldn't like to think that when I kicked the bucket, that I'd end up in a dusty old room in a government building just like ratty office furniture. JKR could have done better with that. Maybe we haven't heard the last of the veil.

OH, is the VEIL in the 5th book? 'Cause if it is, then I am almost there, but what page (pages) is it on?

The veil starts on page 781 in Order of the Phoenix. Enjoy.

Plenty of good things end up in dusty old Government rooms in the movies. I'm thinking of Indiana Jones or X-files. I do hope JK would treat us a bit better.

Did Sirius die before he hit the veil? If he didn't he might come back. Maybe jk will inform us more in books to come. Im still wondering what really happened to him and in the new book what is up with TONKS!!! WAS SHE IN LOVE WITH HIM OR DOES SHE KNOW SOMETHING???

No Sirius did not die before he hit the veil. Bellatrix hit him with the 'red spell', which is a stunner. She could have easily done 'Avada Kadavra', which would have made sure he was dead, but Jo specifically makes mention to the stunning spell. Personally, I think he's still alive

i don't think you end up in the office building. i think passing through the veil symbolizes something... <_< possibly. i think passing through the veil means something like passing through to the other world, the world of the dead. i mean, not like zombies, but passing from the mortal world. what do you guys think?
