JKR talks of a great deal of hardship that Harry is going to have to face in book six. I wonder what sort of hardship is going to have to face besides losing someone else he cares for.
Could it be that he'll find himself in a position of leadership in the school as say headboy perhaps? And maybe some sort of extremely difficult and painful duty will fall to him as headboy?
This is all speculation and conjecture I know but I think that speculation and conjecture is fun and would love to see some of the same from others.

I'm with you. I don't know how many hardships are left for poor old Harry. He's lost his parents and his godfather, lived with the Dursleys, had his friends injured, one killed, his integrity doubted, his sanity questioned, fought evil within an inch of his life, been beaten, scratched, bludgeoned, scarred and starved. So far he hasn't been imprisoned, decapitated or buried alive. The one thing though that would break his heart is if something bad happened to Hedwig. I gotta admit, that would tear me up too. So I hope JKR isn't planning to do Hedwig in. Because of the prophecy, Harry knows his path is headed straight for Voldemort. There's no escape for him. Until he settles up with Voldemort, his life will never belong to him.

As far as Hedwid dying I think that Ron or Hermione's death would grieve Harry far worse than that of an owl. I don't believe that her death would destroy Harry. She is after all only an animal and her death compared to that of Sirius or Harry's parents is nothing.
Unless of course you were just kidding around. I wonder if maybe he is going to have to give up quidditch. If he is to defeat Voldemort then it stands to reason that he would have to take deuling lessons. That's going to take up alot of time from Harry's schedule. Maybe too much time for him to be playing quidditch. Maybe Umbridge's "lifelong ban" on his playing quidditch was JKR's sybolic way of telling us that Harry's Quidditch playing days are no more.

I don't know. What do you think? <_<

Hedwig is the only creature that is a constant for Harry in both worlds. His friends pop in and out but Hedwig is always there. She is his link between the Magic and the Muggle world. Harry depends on her. Without Hedwig, he would truly be alone at the Dursleys. Losing her would tear him up as much as losing Ron or Hermione.

Could Hedwig be a transfigured witch sent to watch Harry Potter? I assumed Hagrid bought Hedwig in Diagon Alley but maybe Dumbledore placed the owl there specifically for Hagrid to buy. Who knows where Hedwig came from?
