So, basically, yes, the sad truth is that it was most likely a tactical and probably, in the end, smart move, to appeal to a larger fan base -look at the consumption power in the US- that was, as a general trend, dumber.
(In layman's terms- We got the stupid version. XD)

I want the original. I'm insult that they think we can't handle it. Obviously somewhere along the line they figured out that we could read in the US - language barriers aside.

Nah, who are we kidding? I'm sure at least 30% of the people who contribute to HP's profits in the US can't read. (After all, a poll for that new game show "Power of 10" said some 25% of Americans believed that Vin Diesel invented the Diesel engine. Yes, a fourth of us are that Stupid. Sad, isn't it?) Testaments to our idiocy surround us.

As to GB- well, Australia's got some 1 or 2% on the US as far as literacy rate. And NZ has another 1% (I think) one Australia. :O Roflmao.

But yes, I wish to have the original as well. They should really just release some of the UK version here- I really have no wish to pay for international shipping. The only reason I have the UK HBP is because I was abroad when it came out and my mom was amazing enough to buy it for me there on the release day.

Does the UK version have a better cover? I would love to have a set of the UK version - especially if the covers were just plain - I really dislike many of the covers.

Well, the US DH cover was just BAD- if only because it was of a scene that didn't make sense. But personally, I didn't really like the UK version either, the art was really unrealistic.
I dunno, as far as cover art that's probably a personal preference- I believe Muggle-Net or Lexicon will have pictures of both versions. However, the UK versions aren't just plain either.

you just wonder what that illustrator got paid? Harry's missing draco's wand, V and Harry are looking away from each other and way too close - it was cheesy.

Probably a ridiculously large amount of money, considering it's the cover of the last in a series that made the author THE richest woman in the UK, and one of in the world.

Here are some cover art pages: Deathly Hallows and an undiscriminating gallery from the Leaky Cauldron with covers from all over the world. (But you can search United Kingdom to narrow it down as well).

Holy Crap. I just looked at these, and one is even WORSE than the cover I have. I much prefer the plainer version with the locket. The one in the middle is hideous. Harry looks like a cartoon Jeff Goldblum. I can't imagine being in the board meeting where it was agreed that Yep, this is the look we were going for!! I wonder if they had even ever read the books. And how could JKR agree to it? Let's hope that illustrator has no input in the theme park. Tacky with a capital T.

Honestly, no. Do you? From the day I bought the first book for my son, I just despised the cover artwork. And once he was done, and I read it--I thought that just is not Harry! Personal preference, I guess. Just did not connect with me at all. How about you Jelf? I have seen you mention it a couple times, but you never spill.
