I think part of the problem is in the conflicting definitions of the term, "jerk." I say we should pin down to a clear definition, and stick to it. I would use whatever meaning Ekin gives, since he likes the word so much, as long as it is consistant and coherent.

For example, my definition would include an element of simplicity, making the character (Snape) easily dismissed. This doesn't seem to work with Ekin's definition.

If the word can not be defined, even to Ekin's satisfaction, I propose that we skip it and use real words.

Being a jerk has nothing to do with simplicity or being dismissed being a jerk is being a jerk. If you don't know what a jerk is I can't explain because everyone knows what a jerk is so I just wasted my time great.

Colorful words might work as punctuation, but you can't fill a weak or unarticulated argument with undefined words in the hope of making it stronger.
The use of such words just accents the fact that the argument is weak or unclear.
