What Do You Like About Slytherin?

hey! i love slytherin. ive always liked how the seem to have the power to do what they want! they study the magic they need... not just the magic that will be fun! they are pranksters! and its fun to laugh at people!

well what i like about slytherin is how they are mean and how they make some of the other houses scared i just like power they have.....

I luv Slytherin!!!!! It rocks 4ever and always!!!!!!!! I think that some Slytherins are evil because they are thought of as being evil by everyone else that, even if they aren't evil to begin with, they start believing it themselves and they start acting the way everyone expects them to. Their parents might have a big influence on them too. I wonder what house has the second most dark wizards to come out of it?

My favorite thing about Slytherins is that they are clever and sly, kind of like foxes, and that they are well distingushed, they stand out (sometimes not always in a good way) but they still stand out. They try and get what they want any way they can.

Slytherin is not a synonym for evil. Many people who do not bother to look deeper into the Harry Potter books, and the mechanisms of Hogwarts, see only the perspective given to them by, if inadvertantely, Harry. But the important thing to remember is that Gryffindor and Slytherin have a history of animosity. This is not "Slytherin hates Gryffindor". Gryffindor and Slytherin both give as good as they get- and they are equally responsible throughout the years. Ron Weasley comes from a family of Gryffindors, he has probably been told that Slytherin is bad for ages. Hagrid, who was expelled by a Slytherin, holds no love for them either. It is understanable, but not neccesarily wise, to adopt the viewpoints of the characters that Harry, and thus the reader, latches on to.

It is true that Voldemort was a Slytherin. It is also true that his Death Eaters, as far as we know, were almost always Slytherins. However, it is equally true that Peter Pettigrew, Gryffindor, betrayed his friends and became a Death Eater. Bellatrix Lestrange is truly an evil person. Still, one does NOT spend 12 years in Azkaban and come out completely sane. But another case- Draco Malfoy. The Malfoys- Lucius, Narcissa, Draco, are a kind of poster-family for Slytherin. But we see, in Half-Blood Prince and in Deathly Hallows, that he is human. THEY are human. They can feel insecurity, love, and loyalty.

Slytherin is a house of ambition, and of cunning. And yes, it is a house of blood superiority, bred and brainwashed into every new Slytherin generation. But a fourth of the student population at Hogwarts is not evil. They are intelligent, if ruthless. Slytherins are eloquent, and intense.

In the end, the first and last reason to respect Slytherins, is because Severus Snape is a Slytherin. Simple as that.

coorect me if i am wrong but didnt the sorting hat say that Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin were the best of friends but then they had a row or something of that matter and then Slytherin departed?
so really they were best of friends at a time. So slytherins cant be all evil. its just the way people see them throught the books. most of us are cunning, sly and wise. so people do not judge by what you have heard but actually talk to a slytherin before judging

hmm... I like how slytherins are so clever. I like how even if they aren't truly strong they always are strong enough to put on a brave face. I mean, like it's been said earlier, most slytherins probably aren't half bad people. They have most of the school going against them and yet they still are strong enough to put up a fight and just deal with it like they don't even care. I also like how mysterious slytherin can be... slytherin is a pretty awesome house... (:
