Snape suddenly takes an interest in Quidditch and wants to referee the match. The first Quidditch match Snape saved Harry from Quirrell & Voldie.

I would suggest Snape chose to referee the match to protect Harry from any other potential attacks. Easier to patrol the match & crowd from the Umpire's broom.

further in that chapter -
'Harry seemed to keep running into Snape wherever he went. At times, he even wondered whether Snape was following him, trying to catch him on his own.'

further evidence of Snape protecting Harry. constantly ensuring that Harry is safe.
Or..... Snape still living in the shadows of James Potter .... dogs him relentlessly, because he thinks Harry's going to CAUSE trouble and he's going to catch him at it.

No ....Harry is the youngest seeker of the century. He caught the snitch on merit a fitting reward for 11 years of misery and derision ...Instant Stardom !

I forgot ...why was that again...Quirrell was complaining about his mark burning ???? actually Snape not knowing Quirell's secret put himself into some peril here which could have brought his downfall how did he get out of it?

Quirrell later confirms that Snape becoming referee interfered with his plans to take out Harry during a Quidditch match.

Snape also suspected Quirrell ever since the 'troll' incident. I think Snape would have had some idea what he was up against. - perhaps not the voldemort 'parasite' within Quirrell's body... but I think Snape would have seen (in his past) plenty of people acting on Voldemorts orders... if anyone were to recognise those signs and behavioural traits - I think Snape would have been one of them.

Snape was a bright boy. We knew that. He was also abusive and creepy in the extreme, and remained so throughout the series. Ok, he turned out to be a weird kind of hero. But the idea of him pining over and stalking Lily still just makes me want to barf.

I never thought about it in that way but, now that you mention it, yes, he probably had a clue.

I presume you’re referring to Spinner’s End. He was talking to Bellatrix. The best lies are mostly truth, with just a subtle twist. In that scene, we have no way of knowing which part was true.

i think that we know that know one new voldemort was back so... and anyways how would snape know that he was back just bnot enough evidence i dont know i just think snape was key character who did a great thing in the end but i think snape was selfish and i have said that a 34875893450634705634780 times and i think that if voldemort doesnt kill lily snape is still supporting him so i have little to no respect for snapes character and he got what he deserved

Snape half-heard the prophecy and he told Voldemort.
Voldemort chose the Potters instead of the Longbottoms.
Snape wasn't always bad either. He adored Lily from the day he first saw her. I think being in Slytherin helped turn Snape into a 'bad guy'.
If he had been placed in any of the other houses...

but - his love for Lily - helped to bring him back... love - redeemed his actions and loyalties.

it's a great message from JRK I think

love did not redeem his actions in my opinion it makes him worse that he was selfish and jealous and how JKR made harry lobbying to have have the portrait of snape up and albus severus= bs no one drops a grudge like that and Snape was playing both sides i think i mean which ever side he saw start gaining momentum he woukld go to

Hmmm not sure Snape woulda gone to whichever side had the upper hand but I def agree that if Lily hadn't had died he'd still be Voldemort's man. He couldn't have cared less that LV wanted Harry dead. Or that he killed James for no reason. He wasn't loyal to anyone except Lily. And I also agree that Harry (or at least Hermione) woulda been intelligent enough to realise that!
I think it woulda been so much better if Snape had TRULY been loyal to DD!!! Just my opinion!
