Ok, did anyone else read theories and find themselves 100% convinced that they were the way J.K was going. ONLY TO FIND THAT ACTUALLY, SHE WAS WRITING A REALLY RANDOM BOOK THAT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE - sorry I'm on my re-read and I'm angry again! I read about the alchemy theory, the ABCDCBA theory, the chessboard theory........ And she didn't use any of them!

All those theories coulda worked. I'm not sayin she abandoned them. She just shoulda come up with summin that worked as opposed to stickin to the original SS/PS version of DH!!

Dumbledore died because he made a mistake. the injury to his hand was cursed and Snape was only able to contain the damage as a temporary measure. I think the lesson is - that - no matter how brilliant we are - all of us are capable of making mistakes and all of us will die at some point. Mortality will befall anyone. People die every day and the impact of their loss will forever affect us. There is never a 'good time' for someone to die - in terms of convenience to others around you. to quote another wizard in another series. 'all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us' I believe the 'lesson' of death, is to remind those of us who live to appreciate the time we have, and to make the most of our time on earth. Having lost people, I think, this is what JKR wanted to address. People die - young, old, sick, healthy, by accident, by murder.... and yes - it isn't fair. But it never is. It never is. Perhaps you are fortunate enough to not have lost someone close to you. or to see someone so sick that it is only months left that they will be alive. sorry for the rambling - I've been wanting to try to answer your 'what was the point of dumbledore dying' question for some times.

Ok. All fair points. And yes I have lost people close to me. My uncle killed himself aged 36. My cousin died of C.F in her 20's and this year my Nan who helped raise me died of lung cancer. Amongst others. I know it's not fair and believe me, I understand that death is a part of life. But what I'm gettin at, is that in terms of the plot of HP, DD didn't have to die. It would have made a far more interestin story if he had faked his own death. When I said what is the point, what I meant was, how did it benefit a fictional series? I don't think it did.

Don't agree. I may not have been happy that the series was over, but I would have liked the book if it had been written with the same quality and style as the others. I think she planned to kill him. That's why it didn't work. She planned it from day one and when it came to writing it, it no longer fitted but she stuck to her original plan. THAT IS JUST MY OPINION. DON'T ALL FLIP ON ME! And I'm not claimin my version of DH woulda been better. Just sayin that some other people's would be (Teddy and Psy to name a few)!
