| TMR wasn't a Muggleborn, techincally, he was a Half-Blood. He was raised as a Muggle, in a Muggle orphanage, but he thought his father had to be a wizard. He grew up in an atmosphere that probably skewed his view of Muggles for his entire life, because the orphanage was not a welcoming or nurturing place- he even asked if it was possible he stay at Hogwarts over the summer instead of at the orphanage. Once he found out that he was descended from Slytherin, he most likely became obsessed with the idea of continuing his ancestor's legacy as well as exacting his own revenge. |

However, I think Riddle really started to hate muggles after he found out that his muggle father had left his mother, an heir of Slytherin, to die a very lonely and miserable death. Off course the orphanage scarred him, but not as much. |

| His muggle father left his pureblood mother. (unforgivable really) Perhaps he thought that only muggles have this weakness of character - to run when something goes wrong. Perhaps he thought that if his father had also been a pureblood - his parents would have stayed together. I think this would have been the crucial childhood theory that would have driven Voldie throughout his muggle annihilation crusade. |

people who have a void to fill. Having never felt love or a true sense of family - the only thing that would have helped Voldemort define himself would be being 'good' at something. being able to have 'power' over something or someone. he may not have recognised it was lack of 'love, humanity and nurturing' - the power hungry rarely recognise this 'lack' in themselves. but I think this lack of 'belonging' - until he got to Hogwarts.... was the single formative idea that drove him to be the best, most glorious, most feared, most powerful, most famous wizard of all time (atleast in his own mind) |
