'realities' of modern warfare - includes periods of 'nothing much going on' for individual units; - includes periods of utter unpredictability - not knowing who can get you or when. I'm thinking the streets of Iraq here - and not knowing who really is on 'your side'. This - is what I think she was going for.
I have read interviews with soldiers in the gulf describing the 'periods of not knowing what's going on'. even the movie Jarheads shows this.
Why is it impossible for JKR to try to capture some of that within the wizarding world? War is not shooting, killing and bombing 100% of the time.
To ask for 'full reality' or 'full non-reality' - I don't think serves much purpose. for 'full reality' - there are no wizards or magic, let alone moments of coming back from death, souls etc. for 'full non-reality' there are no muggles or connection with the modern day world.
Why else do you think she wrote about things the way she did?
As a side note: It is good to know that we all have our own points of view. It is also good to know whether I have expressed myself well, or simply need to try again if I haven't succeeded! ah - it's all a learning opportunity. |
I do understand where you are coming from but I don't think anyone is criticising J.K just because we are vexed the series has ended.
I see that she had to include the realities of war but I don't think it's very realistic that she ended it with all was well. That's not war is it? All wasn't well. Many people had lost loved ones and that should have really affected them. Harry's reaction to Sirius' and Dumbledore's death was realistic. We didn't get to see many reactions to death in this book.
She made it all nicey nicey like we couldn't handle it. That was contradiction. In one way she's makin the book adult (swearin etc) and in other ways she is pretendin it's all good. Sorry but that's b******t in my opinion. We proved that we could handle death. Imo OOTP was the best book but in that we lost Sirius. It's not death that ruins a book. It's the way that it's handled. She could have given Lupin a death scene. Let him die a hero. She could have done the same for Mad-Eye, Tonks, etc.... but she didn't. She let some of her most loved characters be killed without a goodbye. Yes that is war but this is a fictional book and she had the opition to let us know how these characters died. Rant over (for now).
