Default ron & hermione: out of the blue or bound to happen?
just curious as to what other people think on this topic. do you think the ron and hermione pairing was out of the blue or bound to happen? i personally think it was bound to happen because all throughout the books, jk rowling dropped little hints (especially throughout the last book). what are you thoughts in this? (also, on the harry/ginny pairing

Definitely not out of the blue, especially after HBP for both pairings... and probably bound to happen, although there was some ambiguity, to me, if Hermione would end up with Ron or Harry before the 4th book, when the more obvious hints started coming. (Although I'm not a big fan of RHr myself, so I was rather hoping some kind of reasonable alternative would have been offered.)

I think the tension has been rising. I would have been surprised if they hadn't gotten together. Although it didn't really seem fair to Harry - that's the part I had trouble with.

I though JK actually handled the third-wheel problem well, where they were still the Trio when it mattered, and it was at the point when Harry actually needed to do certain things by himself that Ron and Hermione really got together-together. But they still support him, and they are still best friends, and Harry has Ginny anyway, who fits in her own way. After Lav-Lav, and the Oppungo!Birds, and Dumbledore's funeral I don't think anything short of JK killing one of them off would have stopped Ron and Hemrione getting together eventually. Unfortunately.

I thought it was destined from the begining-- I mean lots of couples had an initally negative response to each other. They really disliked each other-- that's pretty realistic.

On the Ginny/ Harry coupling I liked it, thought it was basically realistic. I'm referring to the building a friendship kind of thing. I always thought her spunk-- first appearing in POA was well suited to Harry's character.

as i'm rereading DH, i'm using sticky notes to point out where someone says something that made me laugh, or hints to the ron/hermione pairing, or things that make me think of questions or theories. very helpful for the second or third time reading

Me too AND it has the added benefit of keeping Harry in the Weasley clan officially and not just as a hanger-on via being Ron's friend.

The biggest clue was in the Goblet of Fire. Ron's reaction to Hermione going to the ball with Viktor Krum, and Hermione's reaction to Ron not asking her sooner.

It really shows that there was significant undercurrent going on...

my finace and i hated each other when we first met, couldn't stand being in the same room.

now we're getting ready to get married (currently wearing the dress =O)
