Am I right in assuming Voldemort killed Charity?
I wonder what level of internal conflict Snape would have been feeling at this point?

After finishing the book, it's pretty hard to tell anything with Snape. We can be sure that he had the ultimate "poker face." But he was still snide and hateful wasn't he? He was still a wicked man! But now we know that he felt tenderness, he understood commitment to good. He was the ultimate undercover agent.

I don't have the book with me, but I recall Snape saying something like "Only those I could not save." Perhaps he did try to save as many people as he could under the circumstances.

That's true Alohamora. I think in my mind I've kind of made Snape the Jack Bauer of the Harry Potter Series. Do what you can, but the mission takes priority.

Sad to think isn't it that the task Dumbledore left Snape was to ensure that Harry faced the Avada Kedavra curse from Voldemort so that the horcrux in Harry would be destroyed. He could have never proven himself good even if he tried later, if he hadn't shown his memories to Harry in death.

Ultimate spy indeed. He has to be methodical. Praticality is the most important thing, as cold as that sounds. Dumbledore plays as a chessmaster, Snape plays as a piece on the wrong side- black piece with white loyalties.

Concerning Charity Burbage, she was most definetly killed. There was a line in The Prince's Tale , when Snape is talking to Dumbledore about Harry having to die, that seems like it is referring to Charity:

"'You have kept him alive so that he can die at the right moment?'
'Don't be shocked, Severus. How many men and women have you watched die?'
'Lately, only those whom I could not save,'"
