I don't think I've seen any of the comparison shows -- the British version that is. I do know that shows like Fawlty Towers -- No way Americans could have done any thing to compare. What was the one that was set in the department store? Oh how I laughed. I think we are too big into remakes. Even remaking our own stuff - like Planet of the Apes. I liked the first one best.

But isn't there a film industry in Australia at all?

I think that all the schools in the Tri-wizard Tournament were all European because they are geographically close. I imagine that there are other tournaments for school in the Americas, Africa, Asia, etc.

lol - yes - we certainly do have a film industry. It just isn't as prolific as the UK, which i don't think is as prolific as the US...
we've got 21million people for the entire country. We do have our own shows. but it's only about 30% of total Media (tv, film & music) here. The rest is the best of what the world has to offer.

Getting back to the original question.
Sometimes sporting tournaments are held with participants that have a historical link. Perhaps Hogwarts, the Beauxbatons & Durmstrang are the oldest, biggest schools. and so, historically - a Tri-Tournie would seem sensible.

eg: doesn't the US have a 'world baseball championship' involving only the US & Canada? (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Yes -- on the baseball championship, - The World Series. I'd not even thought of that. It's been that way for almost a century. It just involves the teams that are already part of the regular league and there are only a couple of teams that reside in Canada in it anyway. Not much of a World is it

I know that baseball isn't played as often in the rest of the world or with as much fervor as in the US or Canada. But I do know that the Japanese are really into it now. Why aren't some of the Japanese teams invited to play in the World Series?

I believe I have been slammed. Actually, I'm pretty embarrassed. I gotta watch out before I make a post next time.
