It's unlikely, but entirely possible, that the baby isn't some form of Voldemort/Voldemort's soul at all. Impossible to say for sure, everything is rather ambiguous.

My theory was that it was the shard of Voldemort's soul that had been in Harry, but during Harry's conversation with Dumbledore, Dumbledore seemed, to me, to imply that it wasn't the Horcrux.

I don't think it was Voldemort, because I still felt King's Cross was Harry being dead and then going back, which shouldn't have happened to Voldemort, since he didn't die, and Nagini wasn't yet destroyed.

But Harry was not dead. It was some kind of near-death experience.
Both Harry and Voldemort were unconscious for a while.

(page 709) "He tethered you to life while he lives." Dumbledore goes on for several page. He says a lot, but never really explains much.

Why wasn't Voldemort's body destroyed when, again, his Avada Kadavera curse rebounded? It should have ripped him from his body, as it did sixteen years before. Was the curse weakened because it had destroyed the shard that was in Harry?

Because that shard was destroyed, it could not have been at King's Cross. All that remained were the ones in Nagini and Voldemort.

Unless someone has some other, completely different idea.

I wasn't under the impression that the AK rebounded.

There was also, later in DH, lines that said Harry made the same sacrifice as Lily, to willingly die to protect others, for Harry all those in Hogwarts, all those he cares about.

But it's hard to say.

Remember that this scene took place inside Harry's head, so the scaly baby was Harry's perception of Voldy's soul.
As for why V's body was left in tact this time, I think it's because all his horcruxes had been destroyed. The 1st time, his body was destroyed because Avada Kedavra couldn't really kill him, so it destroyed his body instead.
I hope this makes sense.

It does, but at that point his 6th Horcrux HADNT been destroyed. Unless I'm missing something else.

Now that you mention it, it's not very clear.
So why was Voldemort unconscious?

(Well, aside from the fact that Nagini was still alive...)
If all of his horcruxes had been destroyed, Voldemort would have been just as vulnerable as me.
The curse would have simply killed him.
Then we would have had to consider whether that last little shard could come back as a ghost.
Nick explained, when Sirius died, that most people "go on" but that he (Nick) was afraid of death and chose his feeble imitation of life.

Curiouser and curiouser.

I believe that the scar was the horcrux. With all of the other horcruxes when they were destroyed the pieces of the item were still there, but no longer infected by Voldemort's soul. Because this horcrux was not smashed or sliced or broken by any of the means the other horcruxes were destroyed, i suppose that this horcrux item kept its form, but that the piece of Voldemort's soul was still vanquished from it, thus making it no longer a horcrux but a normal scar and destroying the soul... i sure hope this all made sense lol
