Just because Severus was in Slytherin doesn't mean he couldn't be brave. Not being in Gryffindor doesn't mean you're not brave, and being in Gryffindor doesn't make you brave either. Do people NOT realize just how insulting that is, to suggest that Severus should have been in Gryffindor? I'm sure that the Gryffs think that this is the highest praise for their inferior peers, but really, it's just RUDE. (Consider if people told Cedric that he was so smart and courageous, he should have been in Gryffindor or even Ravenclaw, how in the world did you, Triwizard Champion, get Sorted into Hufflepuff? Really sometimes I wonder if we Sort too early.) x_x Last edited by teddylupin : 08-28-2007 at 11:52 AM. |

| Hello... I'm a Ravenclaw. Not a -what was it?- Gryff. And hello, Hermione was really, really smart, but she was in Gryffindor, wasn't she? Slytherins can be brave. So can Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. It's just that Hermione was more brave, so she ended up in Gryffindor instead of Ravenclaw. Just like for Slytherins, they have to be more evil, for Ravenclaws, they have to be more intelligent, and for Hufflepuffs, they have to be more just and loyal. But Snape wasn't evil, which is why Dumby thought he should have been in Gryffindor. |

Slytherins DO NOT have to be more evil. It's a House of cunning, and amibtion, not evil, thank you very much. This is what I mean by insulting, to suggest that someone should have been in a different House. Severus wasn't evil, it doesn't mean he can't be a true Slytherin through and through. It's rather difficult to explain, but being in a House isn't about being "more" something. Hermione wasn't neccesarily more brave than she was intelligent, nor Cedric more loyal than brave/intelligent, nor Luna more intelligent than she was loyal. It's an...air, I guess, about someone more than anything. |

| Hermione's got that extremely independent streak, where if she's decided on something, very few things are going to stop her. Rules, for instance. (Say, brewing Polyjuice in second year. Extremely Ravenclaw ability, but purely Gryffindor -actually, maybe Slytherin as well- thing to do.) |
