Default About Wands

I was reading chapter one again. We know that wands are particular and we've learned some new things about them in this book. But as I was rereading chapter 1, I was thinking about how helpless Lucius seemed without his -- how instinctive it was for him to reach for Voldemort's as he was comparing the length of the two he was holding. How helpless he must have felt. How even more helpless he must have felt. (There were the nuances of Voldemort invading his home - it might have been an honor, but it had to have been a travesty.)

It got me to thinking about why they didn't carry a spare -- like a second gun strapped at your ankle for protection. Their magic was severly limited without a wand. You could be easily defeated. They knew war was near. Even in the best of times, you wouldn't want to be caught wandless.

Just some wand-ramblings . . .

I've had that thought a thousand times.
It seems so obvious, I can't believe no one does it.
Maybe even a little implant, so you can't be separated.

I thought that too, then thought that must be my US cultural bias. Jo must not have been into Westerns. Needed a little Louis L'Amour background perhaps.

I was thinking John Wayne.

BUT she does have 007. If not an extra wand, then pen with certain wand-like powers . . .

How many cell phones do you have? You just don't expect someone to take yours.

Also, me turning over my cell phone to someone would not be the same as me turning over my wand or gun to someone. You would only do that with someone you truly trusted. I would let a stranger in trouble or a student who needed to call home use my cell phone -- but not my wand

Not a bit -- that's what got me thinking about how nice it would have been to have one strapped to your ankle. AND why it was such a natural response for him to pause for just a moment like he should get Voldemort's. What wizard would want to be without a wand?

And yet, Lucius was ridiculed for that very natural movement that any wizard or witch would have done . . .
